Sewri Mangrove Park - Tourist attraction in Mumbai - Mumbai, India

Sewri is one of the best place to spot pink flamingos during start of the summer time. It's not a very crowded place and police guards this spot so nobody can feed or disturb them. Flamingos migrate in large numbers to this spot every year. The entire shore looks pink as far as your eyes can see. During the sunrise it presents magnificent view. To closely watch flamingos one must carry bionacular as authorities have stopped allowing anyone to take a boat ride and get close to them. It's a good step actually and ensures Flamingos are not disturbed and left alone in their area. Near this place there is also a beautiful Sewri Fort that one must visit. From the fort also one can see pink flamingos.

Ideal location for finding various birds especially during winters. During my visit in early January'2018 I didn't find many of them though as the weather was quite hot till then. Locals told me other years by December end you find hundreds of migratory flamingos perched in the mudflats.

Spotting the young flamingos was the piece de resistance of this trip in May 2018! Saw mudskippers and few different birds near the mangroves. The best place to spot flamingos is from the jetty however the local security guards are very rude and do not allow anyone to go beyond a certain point.

We went to see flemingos but we didn't saw any. Local people said flemingos are not here yet. Its late this year. So we just went there and saw different kind of birds. Morning in this place is peaceful. You can see surprise from this place.

Very few flemingos and they are very far. Also there is some industry security guards that done allow you to go close or inside. Area is not good. Not fit for family visit. Very dirty. But you can see flemingos with binoculars if you have. But don't enter or go too close it's not safe. Maintain a distance.

The Sewri Flamingo point is an excellent place in Mumbai for any photography enthusiast. Have been able to view the Flamingos at low tide more easily than high tide. Other birds spotted here are Kingfishers, Coppersmith Barbetts, Sunbirds, Drongos and quite a few more. Quite close to the Jetty is what is left of the Sewri Fort. The fort is not much to look at since it's a ruin and barely anything remains but you could get a good vantage point of the Flamingoes from here.

Its surprising that bird watching is possible at the heart of crowded Mumbai. You do not have to go far, just take your family to this fantastic spot (period October-March) to get a very close view of the majestic flamingoes flocking to Seri Mudflats. If you have a camera with decent zoom or even with a mobile phone you can snap them during their feeding session. Best time to visit is in the evening. Posting here some of the pictures which I had clicked using a DSLR with zoom supported by a Tripod. You can easily spend the evening with family enjoying soft evening sunlight on the white an pink birds in all their glory. In the distance one case spot the giant Chimney of the Tata Power surrounded by Mahul refineries. This makes for an amusing contrast nature intermixed with industrial town of Mahul as backdrop !. See my picture to illustrate this point. On the other side of the jetty one can notice series of fishing boats huddling together. Men of various ages, probably fishermen residing in these boats stare at you like aliens from a spaceship ! You can also drive to the nearby Sewri fort to walk through Mumbai's history.
