The place is restricted, and people are not allowed inside unleaa forest department permits. We will watch from the top. We traveled almost 100km, and the view was not at all worth it. Not recommend unless you are nearby and have some extra time to kill. The villagers, however, were very welcoming, which i liked.
Beautiful place. However, went to early. I guess one need to wait till end of monsoon to the see the dam in it's full glory. Also, it seems they no longer issue passes at the checkpost if you want to go inside the dam premises and walk over the dam. One can get pass only through KPCL employees.
You have to get permission to enter the dam but you don't need any permission to go near the dam. The place is good when the dam is full of water you can see the water overflow.
This place is beautiful only during monsoon season. If water is filled in dam then it's worth visiting here. Parking facility is there on owner's risk you can park on road side. And it is not that worth to visit this place especially when water levels are down. You need gate pass and few approvals from security to enter this spot.
I recommend to visit this dam during Monsoon. When you can see the lots of water and greenery around. When there is heavy rainfall in a day of Monsoon you will get to see the overflow of water towards the rectangular space.
It is a peaceful and beautiful place. With big forests including wild animals. And this overflow water goes to Sharavati river
Beautiful spot to spend with family and friends. Its around 100 KM from Shivamoga. You can enjoy the scenic beauty in mansoon season. Dam is of stretch of 2 km and get a good view of both the sides. At some point you can see a beautiful creek passing between the green grass. At one point you can see a small Water fall where gushing white water fall from top on to the floor. You have visit this place in the mansoon season where you can see the surrounding with Green environment. It gives lot of peace to the eyes. A couple of friends can enjoy a long bike ride or a long drive to this place and have a pleasant and fun-filled weekend. This place is relaxing and soothing for those who want to enjoy a long ride/drive and simply enjoy nature's beauty. Photography lovers can drop by for some nature clicks. Cycling lovers can plan a cycling event to this place.We have throughly enjoyed and request you to visit this place.
Permission is required to go on dam top. Without permission, one can see from top. Place is green and calm. During rainy season dam will be filled and water will be overflowing.
