Satsang Ashram - Ashram in Deoghar - Deoghar, India

Satsang Ashram is a holy place for devotees of Thakur Anukulchandra, in the south-west of Deoghar, established by Anukul Chandra. Thakur Anukulchandra was born on 14 September 1888. In a small village called Himaitpur in the Pabna district of the eastern zone of Bengal (the then undivided India) which is now in Bangladesh, lord came to save this world. He was born to Sri. Shibchandra Chakravarty (Shandilya Gotra, Kanyakubja Brahmin) and Manmohini Devi. Anukulchandra was extremely mother centric, from his early life. His mother remained his guru throughout his life. He was lover of the mankind. Anukulchandra set up an Ashram at Pabna (later it was named Satsang). At Deoghar in India 1946 for fostering spiritual development a new Ashram had been set up by him. Eventually Satsang ashram at Deoghar became a major place of attraction in Deoghar fo all kind of people in the society.

The experience cannot be expressed in words but some taste can be gained from this vani of Sri Sri Thakur: "Being is instinct with existence, consciousness and blissful becoming-- spontaneously resisting evil, which is unfavourable to existence. What is nurturing to existence, consciousness and blissful becoming is Dharma. Dharma is embodied in a living Ideal. Initiation by the living Ideal begets adherence. Adherence brings adjustment of complexes. Adjustment of complexes invites uphold of existence . Uphold of existence brings compassionate sympathy. Compassionate sympathy gives birth to integration, Integration welcomes power, Power invokes harmonious total growth, And uphold of existence gives rise to deep concentration ; from deep concentration comes Samadhi-- i.e. perfect absorption in the Supreme Spirit-- and from Samadhi comes eternal emancipation of the soul-- the total extinction of passionate desire-- the great awakening of supreme consciousness."

Ashram of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra. You will get a calm environment inside the ashram. Inside the ashram there are prayer halls where two times the payer is performed every day. Also there is a museum where different memorabilia of Anukulchandra is kept. Also beside the Ashram there is anandabazar where people can get Prasad 365 days without a single penny.

Excellent place to visit. Your must arrange for your accommodation in a hotel or lodge nearby in advance as there is always a bustling crowd of thousands of devotees from all over the globe. I saw hundreds of people in queues confessing to the Administrator the problems in their lives (marital strife, medical problems, education, career, business endeavour, financial loss, childlessness, truant children, research, music, political, etc.) and saw with my own eyes how he gave practical rational and scientifically sound advice to all (not a single illogical solution in the 3 hour long open sessions I witnessed daily during my visit) The other senior disciples of the Ashram show a similar rationality in problem solving whenever I saw someone approach them. Interestingly, I saw during my brief stay, people of all political colours, all religious sects, atheists and believers, scholars and illiterate alike thronging this place. Everyone seemed to have some complex freshly resolved. I witnessed the ashramites perform a musical event, and it was mind-blowing. Devotional songs but so ultra modern in their musicality yet bearing the traditional strands strongly. There was no show-off of external religiosity, rather normal spirituality that permeated the daily lives of these people which I found much more appealing to me than a cave-dwelling ascetic would have, especially since I have been in those places too, and found this place to have more spiritual effect on an exponentially larger mass. Even local temples hold this place in high esteem. It was a humbling yet great experience. And I would definitely advice a trip here. This place has a charitable hospital, boys and girls schools, a medicine preparing center (medicines formulated by the Spiritual Teacher Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra), 7 storied free refectory Anandabazar Bhavan, residential areas, aviary, etc. I hear sports events, musical events, art exhibitions etc are organized here. Millions of disciples world over visit it throughout the year.
