Sankara Nethralaya - Eye care center in Chennai - Chennai, India

Heard of Sankara Netralaya's great name in eye treatment in India. People consider this place to be the best in India. But , after my recent visit to this hospital/ institution , it must be said that the myth " The best for treatment for all" has really become awfully funny. This hospital has now become an institution for making great BUSINESS. The patients are are really charged high for treatment and at the same time there are less number of doctors available for treating the patients. If you are charging high , you must have the best availablity and must save time of the patients. I must say the DOCTORS ARE REALLY GOOD IN EVERY WAY. But the staffs are really arrogant and they don't know the minimum culture to behave properly with the patients and their attendants ( these hospital staffs forget that they belong to hospitality sector). South Indian people are not properly educated or cultured to behave properly with people coming for treatment. #sankaranetralaya must take notice of the poor things those take place in the hospital. This is a public welfare section and not purely BUSINESS.

Good for eye treatment but for getting appointments of specialist you need to book 10 day before. And for general unit your you need to take in into the que from 3 am. I gave online booking, on 13 July 23 and 13 days gone no response from the appointment management team. This is our right to know the schedule as a international patient

The hospital is amazing to eye treatment but u will hav to keep patience for meeting with doctor even after getting appointment. Due to alot of patients checkup we have to keep patience. One attender is allow for a patience, or if the patience is physically challenged then they can allow more than 2 attender. In the 1.5 km or area u will get guest house of around 1k per day. If you have any problem in eyes,be ready to stay here for 2-3 days because the process is bit slow

We consulted with Dr. Hennaav Kaur Dhillon at Sarkar Netheralya Hospital today and writing a review here to express that this was one of our worst experiences ever. We traveled from abroad just to get an expert consultation at Sankar Netheralaya hospital. Other staffs treated our 4 year old kid with patience, but Dr. Hennaav was impatient, rude and disrespectful to our son and us. Her consultation was totally useless and the Optometrician did a better job explaining the problem. Her attitude was totally inappropriate and I don't understand why a reputable institution would hire an unprofessional doctor like Hennaav Dhilon for a pediatric unit. Our sincere recommendation is NEVER to go with Hennaav Dhilon and Sankar Nethralya should consider disciplinary actions for Dr. Hennaav Kaur Dhilon if it wants to keep up with being a world class facility.

Two stars only for doctors who are polite, seasoned and work tirelessly. Management is the worse part. They will test your patience to the limit, charge u like private hospital and behaviour totally opposite. It seems management of public flow need to be optimised so that experience of patients can improve. All in all, overrated place. With little more expense better treatment and care available in Chennai for eyes. Also one more thing, once they (reception staff / secretary) do discriminate, so save yourself from the hype.

Very poor Service. Work like a government hospital though charging like an high profile private hospital. Better to avoid if you have don't have time to spend 2-3 full day for even simple eye problem. God knows how much time it will take for major problem. Better go any other nearby hospital with appointment time. Pathetic service. Hospital is overloaded with very few staffs and doctors. I nothing felt special about their treatment. Also you may die without food because they won't tell you when will doctor see and you have to keep waiting till the late evening thinking next may be you.

We went there to get expert opinion of my father's right eye for which the vision was lost last year due to an accident. The staff and service were good, but the waiting time was too high. We had appointment at 8:30am, and it got over by 4pm during which we had a single doctor's consultation and an ultrasound scan. The ultrasound scan itself had a waiting time of 3 hours. The biggest issue was that the staff themselves said in the beginning that the waiting time would be 3 hours. This showed that the scan facility was severely over-used. Either they should increase the number of ultrasound machines/staff, or they should cut down the number of appointments. We also had sought opinion from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. I have to say that they were by far the better eye hospital. Even though waiting time was involved there as well, we managed to get consultations with so many experienced doctors within a single day. And that came under considerably low cost compared to Sankara Nethralaya which had more or less the same infrastructure. Due to the high cost, ineffective use of the facilities and the large waiting time involved, Sankara Nethralaya is a definite thumbs down.

Probably the best eye treatment and research centre of India. All the facilities are focusing on every types of patients. Behaviour and helpfulness of all the staff and the doctors are very very good.
