Salam Singh Ki Haweli (Moti Mahal) - Featured Reviews (1598)
A good place to visit while in Jaisalmer. A dive into the cultural beauty of Rajasthan, this place is sure to make you wonder what life must've been for people living in this 300 years old Haveli. Lesser known fact: As a Prime Minister, Salam Singh was notoriously famous for being a cruel, and due to some childhood trauma had a hatred towards the Royals. He built this Haveli to look even grander than that of the King's Fort and had asked for two stories extra to be added for the same. However, later the King had the additional two stories taken down.
Very disappointed to go there, as the owner also lives there, so only a few part is allowed to see, they take Rs 25 for this. Also even after going there after 10 AM, i am told to come after 11 AM. From outside it look very nice in terms of its architecture.
The guide was so good, explained so many basics of how brilliantly those buildings were build, what is the architecture and the reasons. Heard that it was the first building built outside the fort at that time, it was just desert area around fort. Also most of the things are detachable. Indeed a wonder.
Salam Singh ki Haveli isn't just a tourist attraction; it's a cultural treasure that transports you to a different era. The meticulous preservation, the mesmerizing architecture, and the immersive experience make it a must-visit destination in Jaisalmer. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply seeking to be enchanted by the past, this haveli offers an unforgettable and enriching experience.
A guide is highly recommended. The best thing is that the guide, who is a resident of the palace, is quite knowledgeable and has a very welcoming nature. Tourists who are passionate about historical architectures would be able to truly appreciate the grandeur of this palace.
I wish, I could have given ZERO star. Ticket is Rs 50/person + 20 if you want to click photos. NOT WORTH AT ALL. Guy who act as an guide will ask you definition of HAVELI :p ... just see attached photos and don't waste your time and money.
Salam Singh Ki Haveli (Moti Mahal) is a worst place to visit. First of all it is situated in a narrow street. Visitors have to left their vehicle in parking area and approach there by on foot. It is located in densely populated market area. When you reach Salam Singh Ki Haveli you have to pay money for ticket (no issue for paying money for ticket) but one very big drawback here is tourist have to wait there for unlimited time period because when minimum 5-6 tourist gathered there then owner of the Haveli will allow to enter the tourist in Haveli. If you want to enter in the Haveli single you will not be allowed to visit in the Haveli. Salim Singh Ki Haveli was built in 1815 by Salim Singh, the prime minister of the kingdom when Jaisalmer was the capital. This mansion was not created with the help of cements and mortar- the stones are connected with strong iron rods. This mansion is famous for its distinctive architecture as it is constitutes 38 gracefully carved balconies. The architecture of this mansion is inspired by dancing peacock. One of the most ambitious constructions of its times, the Haveli is so magnificent, that it even invited the ruler's envy during its era.
