The palace is located in the town itself but once you go inside its calm and peaceful. There's a wide variety of ancient artifacts displayed, a herbal garden and lake as well. A nice place to visit if you are interested in history. There's entry ticket and photography is allowed on additional price. On the day we went, there's has been pre/post wedding photography going on as well.
Five months ago, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Shakthan Thampuran Palace in Thrissur, and it was a journey back in time that I'll always treasure. While I'm not sure if it's open for visitors right now due to ongoing renovation works, I can certainly share the magic I experienced. 1. Delving into History The palace, which was the home of Shakthan Thampuran, a significant ruler, was built in the late 18th century. It's a unique blend of Dutch and traditional Kerala architectural styles. The steep roofs, slender wooden pillars, and the intricate carvings on the wooden walls are a beautiful reflection of the past. 2.Practical Information When I visited, the entrance fee was quite reasonable, and the palace was open from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's located right in the heart of Thrissur, making it easily accessible to travelers. 3.Hidden Treasures: Inside the palace, I was greeted by an array of artifacts that transported me to a time of luxury and grandeur. The royal thrones, antique furniture, and ornate lamps offered a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Shakthan Thampuran. The collection of ancient weaponry was particularly fascinating, giving me a sense of the history and battles of the era. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the splendidly preserved chariot. This colossal wooden chariot, adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant paintings, was awe-inspiring. It played a central role in the renowned Thrissur Pooram festival, and its preservation is a testament to the craftsmanship and cultural heritage of the region. As for whether it's open now, I'd recommend checking with local authorities or websites for the most up-to-date information, given the ongoing renovation works. If it is accessible, I wholeheartedly encourage you to explore this incredible piece of history. The Shakthan Thampuran Palace is a time capsule that allows you to immerse yourself in the grandeur of Thrissur's past and the architectural marvels that have stood the test of time. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this captivating heritage, which will leave you with a deep appreciation for Kerala's history and culture.
Now renovation work is going on. Better please check before plan for a visit. It was a old items and heritage related things are available. Located just opposite to bus stand. Also nearby ground is there. Now it was not in open condition because of renovation work.
I think Kerala state archeologic department and Kerala tourism department killing one of the iconic destinations of Kerala. This place has been closed around corona pandemic and they never reopen. Now there is a board on the gate which mentioning renovation work on progress due that visitors not allowed. Actually there is no working operation on progress for the last one year. Very bad based on 2/10/2023

Positive place to spend anytime . Ticket was just Rs.25 for adults and if you are using a camera you have to take a ticket for that because there will be checking frequently. The architecture, greenery and the antique collection is quite beautiful. There is herbal garden, butterfly garden, sacred grove, vadakkechira view and Shakthan Thampuran's tomb inside the heritage garden . The fountain inside the garden , the kudakallu etc were a good experience. The place was quite calm and the staff were good .
