I had the most amazing time walking the gulleys of Varanasi and sitting by the ghats in this unique itinerary. My guide, Anupam is such an amazing story teller, he took us to so many hidden spots that we would not have found by ourselves. More importantly his knowledge of history and his own love for his city is translated in everything he showed us. We also ate some of the best paan, lassi, mithai, jalebi...aaah I'd love to go again on the tour now. Don't miss the chance to walk with Anupam (or anyone from Roobaroo).
Participated in their Himalayan Darma Valley Tour. Very well organised. These people are honest and dependable. Definitely Worth considering a tour with them.
An amazing experience worth investing!! We had travelled to Varanasi in September beginning on a short visit. Not satisfied with the usual temple trail, we wanted to try out something different and called up Anupam. I must say, this was probably the best decision I had taken in a long time. We stayed in Benares for three days and did all three walks : South walk combined with food and boat tour , next day North walk combined with boat tour. I can't emphasize how great an experience we had with Anupam and Saurabh. Anupam took us through the narrow lanes and introduced us to the local way of living. Be it the idyllic pan shop, the saree shopping, an amazing "thandai" shop, local cuisine or a hidden-old world- temple. Each destination seemed like an adventure in itself and experiences I would carry with myself for a long time. Saurabh is a local celebrity, and we went to Tulsi's Ashram, an Akhara and had sumptuous breakfast. We also had long conversations with both of them on culture, religion, society and ended up buying books recommended. They often say that you carry and leave a piece of your heart to the places you travel. With Robaroo walks I was able to experience Benares in its truly authentic and raw form . Listening to stories from past and present while at the same time, experiencing the inner city with all the sensory experiences available was a joy and delight. I would highly highly recommend investing in these experiences. I am planning to do city hopping to try out Roobaroo walks in other cities too. :)
So glad that we took this walk with Anupam. We learned so much about Varanasi . The city has plethora of stories and facts , I think we touched a small part Anupam , is highly knowledgable and had amazing story telling skills Loved the Subhrabhat Banaras , Ganga Aarti , boat ride , facts about the ghats and ended the trip with the world famous Aloo- kachori and Jalebi Plz do take a walk with Anupam when in Banaras , you'll get to learn what you e never read or heard
We had a wonderful trip to Sarnath with Anupam. The journey began in utter comfort with all of ( me and my 3 elderly friends) us pouring in our Banaras based questions to Anupam . Once we reached Sarnath we were given details of its past and present recovery . We spent a v relaxed few hours exploring the place. After getting refreshes with coconut water we moved on to the museum where we stood mesmerised. The size of the national emblem was so huge and unexpected.
I took 2 tours with Roobaroo this week. Food Walk: I came hungry and left absolutely satiated! Discover several hidden treasures of unique foods in the alleyways of the Old City of Varanasi. Photography Tour: experience the morning aarti at Asi Ghat and a nearby old Vishnu temple with much history. The cultural and historic information on the Photo Tour was in much greater depth than the food tour, but if you want to have a safe eating experience, the food tour is very worthwhile. However, there really wasn't any photography instruction aside from telling me where to stand to take pictures during the arti. The leader also was late for one start, and late finishing the other tour. This might be the norm in India!
Kashi, City of Light, calls back its own Varanasi - its first name Kashi, also called Banaras: we had been there three times already. After each time, there still was a pull to return. What WAS this pull? To find out, we read Richard Lannoy's Benares: A World Within a World and Diana Eck's Banaras: City of Light. While these seemed to explain what we had felt in Banaras; we wanted to KNOW. We had been very pleased with an afternoon walking tour we had done with Roobaroo Walks in 2017. So I emailed Roobaroo, mentioned the books, and said we wanted to return for a few weeks or so, for a guided deep experience of Banaras. Is this something Roobaroo could do? Well, Roobaroo had the books, staff had read them and they had found even the obscure Kashi-light-related places! So we hired Roobaroo to guide us on a custom visit to about fifty places that interested us. We arrived in Banaras on January 15, 2023. We started exploring Kashi with Roobaroo's Anupam Singh, a Banaras native, the next day. From Adi Keshava, where Vishnu first stepped on Kashi ground; to morning aarti at Assi Ghat; Anupam opened our hearts and minds to Kashi and the sources of its presence and power over 13 days of our 3-week stay - leaving time for us to absorb and explore on our own. Anupam took us places we had not known about - places that more deeply informed our Kashi experience. Due to Anupam's deep love and knowledge of Banaras and its riches - and his engaging storytelling - our experience exceeded any expectations we may have had. So if you want to open your whole being to the essence of Banaras - more than the standard tours provide - contact Roobaroo.
We took a street food tour with Roobaroo and it was amazing! By the end we were absolutely stuffed. Come on a very empty stomach. Coming from the west we're always a little extra cautious about what we eat so as not to pick up a stomach bug, but this was not something we needed to be concerned about on this tour - we came through just fine. Our guide Anupam was able to organize the tour for us even though it was very last minute! He took good care of us, and was from Varanasi so knew the area very well. He was knowledgeable and friendly, engaging and fun to hang out with. All in all a great way to spend an evening in the city.
