Pathetic experience, weird and unhelpful staff . Almost died of cold as even after taking a room for 3 times the price (as it had heating in sub zero temperatures!) , I was told next morning I had to pay for wood extra ,which is not a problem offcourse but can you not tell beforehand . I was left to die with a wooden stove without wood . Worst night in Manali in about 14 years of travelling
Perfectly located with nature all surrounding and river flowing beside. Sound of birds and river flowing is the only sound you hear in property. Located in old Manali just a 5 min trail walk from all busy noise is a place for solace. Highly recommended!
My First hostel stay ever in life, the environment and people are so nice and awesome, a fully comfortable and safe place for girls to stay. I stayed there for like 20 days and can't forget those days, that place and experience gives me the motivation that I can live more of myself and meet new people and keep going. The best escape that I ever had was at Rockway in Manali. I really love the place and people over there. You are going to make really good friends and memories in Rockway.
The place at peace near a big rock where you will find every adventure nearby - from moon gazing point to forest bonfires and goth river The backyard of the hostel has been decorated with all the love. Hostel for popular vibing parties which makes us do the disco on the music of infamous underground musicians from all over the world The owner of the hostel is too damn cool, we call him bawaaaa :) Thank you for always hosting us with happiness, love and loads of stories.
Best place I have found in manali, totally secluded stay at river side and surrounded with mountains. They have also Community kitchen, wifi, geyser, apple farm, near by short trails to explore more. A perfect place if you want to escape from the crowd. #metime
This is not a hostel, it is actually a cave which is totally deserted and isolated from mankind. The only way to reach this location is to trek through mountains, rocks and rivers for about 1-1.5 km (approx 30 min one side depending on your speed). It has no access to the main road. It is totally a jungle area. In case of medical emergency or fire breakout, if any, neither ambulance nor fire brigade could reach you. No heavy luggage or trolley bags except backpacks could be carried to the location as there is no road (but only a trail) to walk upon or drag the trolley bags. The location though looks beautiful during daytime becomes extremely scary and isolated to walk through the dark during night time or late evening. There are no lights, not even street lights, throughout the way to the hostel location. Mobile flash lights could be your only savior. One needs to enter the hostel limits by 7 pm max or else you're in trouble for sure. The hostel management should clearly put these facts in the description so as to leave it at the discretion of the customers whether to book the property or not. The person is left with no other option but to stay in the property since he/she had already paid for it and made the bookings in advance.I booked the property for 4 days (and ended up regretting each day) but stayed there for 2 days only as I was kicked out by the hostel owner on the third day itself. It was peak season and fetching a new accommodation was extremely painful; I had no other booking in hand and was forced to look for another option late at night all alone in spite of being a solo women traveler. I got a little late the third day. It was 9 pm at night and I was a little scared to walk alone through the dark to the hostel. Also, the neighbor's dogs attacked me the same morning in the hostel lawn and I ended up hurting my left knee while trying to save myself from the situation. So being a little scared and un-confident to walk alone I requested the owner to allow someone to escort me safely to the hostel, it being an extremely offbeat location. This proved to be my only mistake. The owner was extremely rude, selfish and ill-mannered. Though he sent someone a few steps to the hostel gate, I had to walk down the dark all alone. After reaching the hostel, he told me that it was my problem not his and he can't send someone everyday to my rescue. This was the first time I made such a request during my stay and that was because it was quite late, something unpleasant happened the same morning and the way to the hostel was completely dark and isolated. He even went to the extent of questioning me that why did I come to the mountains and should better stay back home. Three of his friends who were claiming to be guests (I doubt) as well joined the club and jumped into the argument to fight with me. To my surprise nobody stopped them and the owner encouraged them and together they were mocking at me in the ratio of 4:1(I being alone). Things took an ugly turn when the owner asked me to vacate the property at 10.30 pm late at night. I refused but he said that it is his property and I should go and stay. It was late and I didn't want to risk my safety so I constantly denied. The owner was in no mood to allow me to stay back in his property at least for the night. He refunded the balance amount for 2 days in cash and asked me to vacate immediately. I had no other option but to move out. The experience was terrible, unpleasant and horrifying.
Best backpacking experience ever! Out of nowhere I ended up in Manali and chose Rockaway Hostel as recommended by another backpacker. The place is so tranquil and yet so Cozy that I just didn't feel like leaving. You can hear the gentle stream water flowing, see the snow capped mountains and the lush green surrounding with apple trees! The rooms are comfy and had clean washrooms. The host Santosh is an amazing guy and super receptive. He will go out of the way to make you at home as well as give you his inputs on your travel plans based on his rich experience backpacking across the country. All in all if you are in Manali look no further! Can't wait to be back at Rockway. Cheers! Location: 10/10 Cleanliness & Rooms: 10/10 The Rockway team: 100/10
