This fort has only one single bastion which can be seen from sion railway station. It has only one wall which is totally in ruins. This is a private area so can't go inside.
The fort or in short the watch tower is really in Ruins, there is literally nothing viewable when entering it, the only access bring a ladder and a small water holding cistern filled with Garbage. Do wish the ASI does something to preserve it since History is always something to remember what Mumbai or Bombay was and what it is now currently.
The fort has only one wall ..u need to permission to see that wall because of it's private area
There is no proper way to get here. It's in total ruins. This is the way we preserve the history of this great city. Across the road, the Sion fort has been well kept, and this fort which is supposed to be an extention of the Sion fort is completely unkempt just like the dharavi fort - kala killa.
The Riwa Fort (also Fort), locally known as Kala Qilla or Black Fort, is a fort in central Mumbai (Bombay), India on the banks of the Mithi River. The fort is currently in a dilapidated condition amidst the Dharavi slums. It was built by the first governor of Bombay, Gerald Aungier (1669-1677). It was part of the larger Bombay Castle, and marked the northern portion of British-held Bombay in the 17th century. The castle was also used as a watchtower, guarding the territory against the Portuguese-held (and later Maratha-held) Salsette Island. The fort comes under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra Directorate of Archaeology and Museums. Feels sad to see the current condition of the fort
There was no entry to the fort . The fort is closed . Locals are also telling that there is no fort here . What type of condition is there of fort .
As a student at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School I remember visiting this place many times with friends during our lunch breaks. Nostalgic memories. From here you can see Chunabhatti and Kurla and can understand why the British built it as an observation post.
This is not Riwa fort but single watchtower. Dharavi fort/Kala killa is Riwa Fort.
