Rankala Lake is on the western side of Ambabai temple , it is a popular evening spot and recreation centre. This lake was constructed by late Maharajah, Shri Shahu Chhatrapati. The Lake is surrounded by Chaupati and other gardens. In the backdrop stands majestic Shalini Palace. Shalini Palace is the only star-rated Palace Hotel in Maharashtra. Chaupati also brings memories of Chatak daar Bhel-Puri and Ragda-Patties and variety of food snacks. In past, Kolhapur was famous as a centre for Film Industry. Many Marathi movies, Hindi movies have been shot in studios in Kolhapur. ShantKiran Studio on Rankala Lake was shot in numerous movies. This studio was owned by V. Shantaram (V stands Vanakudre), gift to Indian Film industry. Today, those days in history is being remembered as golden past.
It's really good place have evening walk or hanging out with loved ones. Very Historical background now treated as Choupati, many food stalls and activities in this area. Boating is also there. It really refreshing in Evening actually... Beautiful Place must Preserve.
This historical lake is a treasure trove for many Hinduists and scenery admirers. Rankala features the Shalini Palace to the north, the "Padmaraje Garden" to the northeast, and a recently developed park towards the southeast bank.The spot is famous for movie shootings. The 'Sandhya Math' in the lake is most ly under water during the rainy reason. Rankala's southeast park has a fresh food market.

A widespread historical lake with dedicated walk-way. A Shalini palace. A place for boating. Bird watching, indian and foreign birds are observed by this lake. Picnic spot for small family fuctions. Romantic place for 'love-birds'. Morning walk, jogging, cycling as well public natural swimming place(Only for good swimmers). Dedicated swimming pool also their besides lake, called Ambai tank. Occasional and seasonal large ferris-wheel, small ferris-wheels and horse riding mini ride at evenings. Babies can enjoy mini car rides. Can play garden ctricket, football etc. This place is very popular for its mouth watering tastes of fast foods like bhel, pani-puri, potato-spring, shev-puri, ragda, ice-creams, different roles, wada-paav, chat, South Indian, chinese dishesh, momos, thalipith to name few... This place has historical background too. Built by Chh. Shahu Raje, very briefly planned and was feeding whole city drinking water. It has its own remarkable things to mention. Now maintained by muncipal corporation. In short a calm and full of life place. Loving, respectful place of every kolhapurkar.
