Ramgarh Crater - Crater in Asnawar - Baran, India

This crater is located near the village of Ramgarh on the Kota plateau of Rajasthan. This Geo Heritage Zone has a diameter of 3.5 kilometers and its ring rise further 150 to 200 mtrs above the surrounding plateau. Exact age is not known but considered between 1000-1600 million years ago. This crater is unique because of the presence of a peak in the centre of the crater. Ramgarh Crater can be easily seen from a distance of 50 km. This crater has been recognized as a National Geographical Heritage since 2020 by the Earth Impact database society of Canada, making it the 200th World Geographical Heritage Crater. Other tourist attractions in this area include an ancient Shiva temple and a Devi temple. The area is also home to lakes, which are a habitat for migrating birds and wildlife.

This Geo Heritage Zone is believed to be 600 million years old. It is situated on Rajasthan's Kota plateau, adjacent to Ramgarh village, 40 kms from Baran district headquarters. It is the third crater in India after Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The diameter of this crater is 3.5 km. A Natural Geographical Heritage, the Ramgarh Crater was given constitutional recognition in 2020 by Earth Impact Database Society of Canada and is the 200th crater of the World Geo-Heritage. The area has other tourist attractions such as an ancient Shiva Temple and a Devi Temple. Lakes are also here which are a natural habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.

3 Places to Visit during Ramghar trip: 1. Ramghar Crater has been announced as Nation Geological Heritage. It is very beautiful place to visit. It is surrounded by few villages and beautiful ponds and vegetation. Very peaceful place and people are also good here. Reasonable to stay and explore and foreigners also it is best place to visit. 2. Band Devra Temple build in 10th Century and further renovated in 11th Century. It is piece of Art and Heritage of India. The temple is very ancient and has its scientifically structured. 3. Ramghar Mata Temple is must visit place. The temple is situated on top of mountain having approx 750 stairs. The journey itself is very interesting and peaceful. Overall Ramghar can be visites for all above places and even can be considered as one of best natural picnic places during rainy season between June to August and in light winter Oct to Nov and Jan to March. One can avoid summer season which is April and May.

Great place to visit, though beware, it's a hard to reach place during monsoon season, with all the roads/bridges flooded. The view from top of the ridge is spectacular.

It's one of three place where crater is made due to fall of meteorites millions of year ago.
