At a distance of 4 km from Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Rajarani Temple is one of the most renowned and the famous temples situated towards north-east of Lingaraja Temple in Bhubaneshwar. Maintained by Archaeological Survey of India, it is one of the must visit tourist places in Bhubaneswar. Built in 11th century CE, the Rajarani Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is referred in the traditional Sanskrit texts as Indresvara Shiva Temple. The temple is known for its sculptural excellence, profusion of ornaments, exuberant architectural features and multiple scroll work. The present name Rajarani has been derived from the local sandstone used to build it. Rajarani Temple is also called as 'Love Temple', because the temple contains the erotic carvings of women and couples. The temple has a lot of historical importance. Rajarani Temple is built in the pancha ratha style on a raised platform with two structures, a central shrine called the Vimana with a bada (curvilinear spire) over its roof rising to a height of 18 m and a jagamohana with a pyramidal roof. There is a range of smaller carved spires on the main spire. Amalaka, a stone disk with ridges on the rim, is placed over the tower of the temple. A kalasa surmounts the amalaka as the crowning finial. The plan of the jagamohana is square compared to the rectangular ones present in earlier temples. This temple is the reminiscent of the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple of Khajuraho. The main sanctum of the temple is devoid of any deity. But there are some obvious features which indicate that the temple has a Shaivite origin. The temple has the presence of Shaiva Dwarapalakas named Prachanda and Chanda. The main attraction of this temple is sculptures of Astadikpalas, the eight temple guards who protects the temple from the different directions. The eight guardians are namely: Indra, Agni, Yama, Nirriti, Varuna, Vayu, Kubera and Ishana.

This temple of lord shiva and his consorts , also known as love temple was built in 12th century. It is a ticketed monument and with fee of 25/- for local and 250/- for foreigners. Temple contains sensuous carvings are of women and couples. Surrounding the temple , a well maintained huge garden area with seasonal flowers and trees for a natural vibe. This is place till 9 pm. Parking space is limited, ticketing is done online. After sunset they do turn on the display lights of temple for a very majestic view .

The 11th-century Raja Rani Temple, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), is a beautiful temple with exquisite carvings. Although there is no idol inside, the carvings on the walls are still breathtaking, even though many of them are damaged. You can see many carvings of smiling shilabalikas (female figures). A very spectacular and magestic temple in the heart of Bhubaneswar. This temple has no idol's of gods. Its just structure of a temple. It has a beautiful garden and masterpiece of arts and monuments. Very attractive place.. After sunset you got an eye-catching view of the temple. Visited there to show the Heritage of our state to a foreigner friend. There He was mesmerized by seeing the architecture of the temple.

Architecture of the temple is really cool and you will love it. There is no good in this temple but it is famous for it design and architecture.
