I just loved the nature here. I have decided to go for a jungle stay not for just watching the animals and bird but also it's nature,it's trees, it's river,it's golden grass. This place satisfied my expectations. The 3 hours long safari was a mesmerizing experience. Although I didn't see any tiger but plenty of other wild life creature was there to entertain us. The sambar, elephant with her baby, boar, types of bird, specially peacock and plenty of deer was there to watch from the jeep. The river with in this chilla range is very beautiful. The jeep crossing the river and some time running through it was a added gem to the enjoyment of this safari.
Best time to visit in the month of feb to june more animals to see in that period
Rajaji National park, Chilla zone is very close to Haridwar Har-ki-pouri ghat. From the main road to the jungle entry gate is around 10km. Situated under the rocks of hills and river passing through the core of the jungle made the beauty of this forest mesmerizing. This jungle is connected to Jim Corbett National park so you can see a lots of flora and fauna in this forest. Deer and peacock are easily visible. Tigers and leopard are aslo there but they are not easily visible. Elephant, wild hen, wild boar are also there.
So, obviously it's a great activity to do if you want to do a day activity in Rishikesh. It's a jungle safari and is a nice three and half hours drive inside the jungle. There's incredible forest inside and animal life from tigers, leopards, elephants, sambars, deers, beers, porcupines and what not. The only thing you gotta look out for is that you go in a good time of the year for sightings of the big cats. Prefer a time in March/April and prefer early morning safaris since most animals are active early mornings. But the fact is, that Rajaji zones have tigers that are less than 50ish whereas Jim corbett has like 300+ tigers. Rajaji is also smaller in area. So if you want more chances of sightings, prefer Jim Corbett park. The cost of the safari is almost the same in both the parks. You'll find safari contacts on the internet. Costs around 2k or under in either of the parks. Definitely rent the binoculars they offer outside. Most animals will be a bit afar and it was quite useful to us. There's a canteen in Rajaji that has basic maggi, omelette, chai and all. Maybe avoid going with a noisy crowd so as to be able to not scare the animals away. The road through the cheela dam to Rajaji park is very peaceful and nice. On the way back, can spend sometime at the dam as well.
Chilla Range in Haridwar. Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary sprawling over an area of 249 square km is nestled on the east banks of river Ganga. The sanctuary was established in 1977 and was combined with the sanctuary of Motichur and Rajaji in the year 1983 to create Rajaji National Park.
Awesome forest, different colours of trees red, yellow and green, it mesmerizing. Had good adventurous trip. We saw deer, peacock, boar and elephants. Tiger sighting in this park is next to impossible, hence dont have high hopes.
A good site to visit. It is just 10-12 km away from Har ki pauri. Only deers, peacock, sambar, fowl, jackle seen. Pugmark of tiger and elephant. 2 hours safari was there by jeep.
