Rajagiri Fort - Historical landmark in Gingee - Villupuram, India

Great historical place! Also one of the most impregnable fortress of that era. You will see the architectures sculptures of that period. You can see lots of temples, palace ruins etc. Great hiking place too, takes more than a hour to reach the top, avoid going in the afternoon coz of the heat, bring water bottles and snacks and Beware of monkeys

Site exceptionnel que nous avons eu la chance de visiter dans d'excellentes conditions. Il faut compter environs 03h00 de marche pour arriver au sommet. La vue est impressionnante tout au long du chemin et certainement une fois le sommet atteint. Prevoir certainement 1 litre d'eau par personne en fonction de la meteo. Beautiful and a historic place place to explore. Prefer to reach here either morning or evening hours. If you would like to climb up to the fort it take at least 2.5 hours by steps. No roads to climb to the top. There are structures below to be seen and en route temple and serene. Rani fort near by will take 1 hour to climb up to the hill. Opp to the Rani fort a small wall to climb up and see the beauty of both at one place.

One of the historical sites which is preserved well. It's a trekking spot. People who can trek will like this place more and the trek is moderate to difficult which requires more than half the day to complete the whole sightseeing of fort. For those who cannot trek, just visit till base of fort which also has many structures to see with rich history behind each structure. A great place for photography, Ariel videos and to admire the historic structures and the associated stories.

I have visited this fort in October month. It's a good treck for 2 hours in general. It's amazing to see the engineering knowledge which was prevailed centuries ago. When rest of the world was struggling for earn life, our ancestors created such so many marvels which few nefarious tried to destroy it. The good thing whats we saw is Digital entry passes from Archeological Survey of India, appreciable. 20Rs. Per person but completely online. There are few guards who try to maintain the decorum but in my view should be increased. Most important thing is, we can not enter after 15.00 hrs. So need to careful about this if someone wants to go uphill. View from the uphill is mesmerising and can't put in words. Uphill there are few ruins of palace, few rooms and so on. There are lot of monkeys and can cause trouble if they find food items. Need to be cautious. In general we should visit this place and go uphill to see the beauty Surrounding.

Opens at 9am. Tickets have to be booked online @ asi.payumoney.com Entry fees 20/- per head. There are QR codes which can be screened and paid online at the entry to the main fort. Hiking up to the top of the hill is not permitted after 3:30pm since the whole place closes at 5pm. One should plan an entire days trip here with family/friends. So many monuments to see in just the main fort. There are three forts. Next time to visit is during the winters or when it is raining. The views from up top are magnificent and breathtaking. The hike might take up to 1.5 hours as a leisurely trek up. Multiple view points and break points are there with several small monuments to see. Amazing place and a must visit place for anyone traveling in and around Gingee/Senji. Do carry enough water and an umbrella/cap especially on a sunny day.

Very good place for tracking. Carry enough water for drinking while climbing. Lot of monkeys are there, do not disturb them so they will not disturb you. Awosome place for photography. Nothing to see on the top hill except one temple. View from top is good. Lot of places are there to visit in ground only. Tracking lovers can track the fort.
