This 15th century Mantapa is the holy site of famous poet/saint Purandara Dasa who was an esteemed member of the Royal court of Raja Krishnadev Raya of Vijayanagara Empire. It is said that about half of the Carnatic verses/couplets today were direct or indirect contributions from him. He compiled them while sitting on this Mantapa along river Tungabhadra. The views are so scenic and on the other side of the river , one can also see Anjanadri Hills at a distance. Please don't venture much inside water as there is a crocodile warning as well. You can enjoy from a distance and return with pleasant memories .

Purandaradasa Mantap is situated right on the banks of river Tungabhadra and on the rear side just 5min walkable distance from the famous Vijay Vitthal temple. It's a very quite relax and less crowded place on the banks of Tungabhadra River. Visitors and tourists, visit this place after completing Vijay Vitthal temple visit. When you move towards Purandaradas Mantap from Vijay Vitthal temple, in the way you will see stone shaped arch, known as Tula bharam or King's Balance. This place is a scenic beauty. One side you will have majestic river gliding past the mantap. From here you can see Ancient Stone Bridge. On the other banks of the river, you will see some greenery and coconut trees. This place get inundated during rainy season when the river Tungabhadra swells in size and flows over the mantap. Sunset view from here is really mesmerizing.Nearby one small Snacks and tea shop is there for refreshing. Must visit place in Hampi

Fantastic view with good food at this place. Going into water is restricted here. Security here are very friendly and even help us with letting us know the history of this place. This is a must visit for people who go to Chariot temple.

Mantapa is actually in the river bed, similar to Krishnadevaraya's tomb at Anegundi. The mantapa is a simple looking structure, built of heavy granite blocks. It seems the mantapa is situated on a rockbed, no foundation required and also the reason for it surviving so many years. The platform next to the mantapa is a recent addition, every year a 2 or 3 day Carnatic music festival is held in memory of Sri Purandara Dasa. Its nice to see this historically important structure maintained nicely.

The temple is at the river bank of the Tungabhadra river, 5 minutes walkable from Vijay Vitthal temple. Peacefull place. The temple is not accessible during the rainy season.
