Busy town, More traffic congestion due to ongoing Metro rail project. The Porur Town has population of 46,690 as per Census India 2011.
After construction of porur junction bridge it is ok to travel this area. Previously it was terrible experience because of traffic. Now the traffic authorities need to take action to clear auto traffic all corners of the roads.
Traffic management is very poor. As of now, Apr 2017, the constrction of new flyover caused more such traffic. No safe pedestrian path. No after 12pm shops.
Porur is gateway to Chennai from Western Tamil Nadu, Southern Andhra & Southern Karnataka. In recent years, there is heavy industrialisation of the areas between Poonamallee & Kanchipuram which increased the traffic multi fold. This caused traffic holdup daily in the Porur Junction.The ROB work is very slow. I think the work is awarded to a contractor who don't have enough expertise in building such structures.Similar work started much later in Chennai city have been completed & put into use. Porur ROB is jinxed from the beginning.Let us hope for better tomorrow. After long wait, Porur ROB has finally opened for use of vehicle users. Traffic has considerably reduced as also stress level of all those who cross the intersection.
