This is a small water reservoir in between the forest of Buxa where you can reach after a small hike from the Jayanti. The quiet serene atmosphere of this place provides mental peace. Pokhri means pond in local language and in this pond big cat fishes are observed along with turtles and other aquatic species. This place is also an elephant corridor. Elephant and other wild animals used to come here to drink water. It is a must visit place to enjoy the silence of nature.
It's like a bliss of mother nature in the lap of hill inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Buxa, West Bengal. Pokhri stands for lake. It is a natural lake, formed strangely at such height of hill. There's a narrow trekking trail which is to be taken to reach at the spot. Local people of both Hindu and Buddhist community believe the place to be a sacred place and they offer worship to their respective Gods specially on the occasion days. There are plenty of cat fishes in the lake whom you may feed by your own hands. The trek needs approximately 1 hour (the both ways) and you'll undoubtedly enjoy it. The flora and fauna makes the environment praiseworthy more and more.
We have visited this place on 5th June 2018, a beautiful serene place, you have to trek about 800 meters up hill through a narrow path in the forest, it may be hard for some of you but after you reach at the top and have a view - it will be an amazing experience. Only stable or fit persons will be able to go there. Lots of fishes in a beautiful natural lake, lush green surroundings, sadly many plastic bottles are left / thrown by visitors here and there. People should enjoy the nature keeping it clean.
Excellent place, short trek and short car ride. .
It's a beautiful place with breathtaking view...very calm and serene...although the trekking could be set back for some but it's an awesome experience once you reach the top of the mountain... It's a must try for those who love adventure and want to start trekking in the near future...
Presence of a waterbody at the top of a hill is inexplicable. It's revered by the Hindus, the Buddhists and local ethnic groups. A lot of large fish and turtles can be found there. They wait hungrily for the tourists to feed them muri (puffed rice) and soy beans.
Great hidden lake (Pokhri) in Jayanti hill. You have to trek half an hour uphill to reach the Pokhri. You will find sacred catfish here in the lake.
You can take your own vehicle to visit Pokhri. Taking a guide is mandatory (@ Rs250/-). After some distance, your car can't go further and you have to trek about 1100 ft. to reach the lake and it's worth all the efforts. The lake has plenty of Magur fish and tortoises. An idol and temple of some local God is also there at the top.

Personification of the phrase that sometimes the journey is more beautiful than the destination! Raimatang is a small village in the lap of nature, where the local people offer homestays. Nothing else is there to be seen. But the whole journey is gre
