The place is a must visit area when traveling to Valparai. When moving towards Valparai, this place is after Vazhachal water falls. There are some shops there you can have meals. This place is just 500m away from the main road. There is a garden where we can sit and view the scenic beauty. There place is kids friendly so it is just good to visit with family. The Dam is not permitted for photography but other areas are.

One of the beautiful place to visit when going to Valparai .Peringalkuthu Dam is a concrete dam built across the Chalakkudi River in Thrissur district, Kerala state of India.It also contains Peringalkuthu Hydro Electric Power Project of Kerala State Electricity Board who owns the dam. This is the first hydro electric power project to build on the Chalakkudi River.

They started a steamer service at Rs 750 for 5 guys. Its extremely worth and the guys are friendly. You can ride far into the reservoir for about two Kms. You wil have more fun on the ride from Valparai to Athirapilly

This dam is admist thick forests.about 3km from the main route 10rs entry.horrible roads. no boating now.you are not allowed to take photos.go only if you have excess time.dam is full now.anyhow its beautiful in monsoon.about 40 minutes time total.

1949 Built,Still operational. Porungalkuth dam is a lonely place hardly 8 km away from Vazhachal falls. If you are interested in post independence construction, it's a worth watch place.

It's neat, calm, clean&beautiful place.Scenery is good. Not much crowd. No shops. Nothing is there for children to enjoy. For newly married couples , this place like lonely planet. Before there was boating. But now there's no boating and they will not allow us to walk on the Dam
