Peacock Island - Island in Guwahati - Kamrup, India

Umananda island is located in the Brahmaputra river. It is a nearby place from guwahati. I visited there after visiting kamakhya temple. It is a nice island. There is a shiva temple called umananda temple. The ferry will be available from the river bank to go to this island. I recommend everyone to visit the island with your family and family members whenever you visit guwahati.

Place is really great and clean, thanx to Assam CM for good transportation. Boat ticket is 20rs only per head. It's small island nothing much to do but for devotee always great.

A Beautiful, eye soothing view of Bramhaputra river and Umanandu island in the middle of this river. This island is the smallest river island in the world. Britishers named this island as 'Peacock island' because of it's peacock like structure. This beautiful place is in Guwahati city, in Assam, a state in northeast India. There is a famous temple of 'Lord Shiva' named as 'Umanandu Temple' on this beautiful island. The ferry motor boat service is available by the Assam Government to reach there.

A very famous temple of lord Shiva situated right in the middle of Brahmputra river. I traveled there when Brahmputra was flooded and I had to cross the river in a small motor boat, the experience was thrilling with fearsome currents at the center or at some places. But it ended well.

It got the shape of a peacock, hence the name Peacock island. Its one of the major tourist attractions in guwahati city.Ferry is available to this island.Govt services charge 50 per head.The view is more beautiful at sunset time. Private ferries are also available, though they charge much higher, you will have more time to roam around the island. Sunset view in this island is highly recommended.Hopefully visiting the island again next time post covid.

It will be a wonderful experience if you make a boat cruise from Kachari Ghat to Umananda temple. If you are a nature lover, you would definitely sit there day long enjoying the serenity, calmness, divinity and natural beauty of the island and temple premises.

One from planetarium which takes Rs 20 or so, the second one is from Jolpare which is quite expensive (don't remember price approx Rs 200 or so) . Jolparee is private boat which also has restaurant on board.
