Pavagada Solar Park - Featured Reviews (48)
Pavagada Solar Park is a solar park spread over a total area of 13,000 acres (53 km2) in Pavagada taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka. 600 MW of power was commissioned by 31 January 2018. and a further 1,400 MW are planned. The total investment required to build 2,000 MW of capacity was estimated at Rs14,800 crore (US$2.3 billion). By the end of 2018, the park is planned to have a total capacity of 2,000 MW and will be the world's biggest solar farm. Karnataka Renewable Energy DevelopmentLtd (KREDL) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) established a joint venture company, the Karnataka Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd (KSPDCL), in March 2015 to implement solar power projects in Karnataka. The Chairman of the State High Level Clearance Committee (SLHCC) approved the KSPDCL's proposal to construct a solar power park in Pavagada taluk on 29 October 2015. The project is spread over a total area of 13,000 acres (53 km2) which includes the 5 villages of Balasamudra, Tirumani, Kyataganacharlu, Vallur and Rayacharlu.

The Solar Park named as Shakti Sthala is located at Pavagada, less than 200 km from Bengaluru. It is set to become the world's largest when it attains its full potential of 2 GW This move resonates with the centre's ambitious scheme to generate 100 GW of solar power by 2020. Pavagada sits on an elevated plateau with rocky hills all around. With more than 300 sunny days a year, this area was declared drought hit for the last 60 years. Pavagada was chosen as little grows in the barren land besides groundnuts. Govt with the farmers participation has made use of their barren land for harnessing solar energy. The land is taken on lease for a period of 25 years from farmers. As a compensation, govt pays an annual rent of Rs. 21,000 per acre, with a 5% appreciation every two years. Around five acres of land is needed for 1 MW. 2 GW is enough to power 7 lakh households India has become the world's third biggest market for solar power, after China & US surging past Japan last year
Worlds Largest Solar Park 2000MW Shakti Sthala, Pavagada, Karnataka (India). First phase of 600 MW is completed. India is currently 2nd Largest solar energy generator in world.
