PAU Museum - Museum in Ludhiana - Ludhiana, India

One must visit this beautiful place in the university. They have preserved so many historical artifacts that you won't find elsewhere. Take your family with you and visit this place to see the Punjabi culture. The fee at the gate is really low which I think should be increased so they can use that money to bring more things or to make this place even better. The architecture of the building is amazing.

The Punjab Agricultural University Museum is one of the landmarks in Ludhiana which is visited by many people all year long and is on the outskirts of the city. This museum lies in the premises of the Punjab Agricultural University. This Rural Museum was inaugurated at the hands of S Khushwant Singh in the year 1974 on 26th April. The rural life of the people is very well displayed at this museum and the Punjabi culture is very evident at its best.

The Punjab Agriculture University Museum on the outskirts of Ludhiana, Punjab, displays artifacts from the various era of rural Punjab. The museum which was highly inspired by the open-air museum in Copenhagen is an excellent insight into traditional Punjab. It resembles the traditional houses in rural Punjab with long paths flanked by water channels on either side. The Museum is a hybrid of the agricultural and cultural portrayal of Punjab where on can visit the goat farm, cow farm, and horse farm. The models of miniature mountains, rivers and water reservoirs are the crowd pleasers. The exhibit has a long path with water channels on both sides and a beautiful facade in its 4000 sq.ft of land. The 100-yard long path makes way to the etched wooden door of the museum with which holds the antique repertoire of the 18th century Punjab. This historic building houses a rare object made of six layers of camel skin. The culture of Punjab comes alive at the museum as it features traditional instruments like tumba, sarangi, vanjhili and nagara. It is a perfect setting to understand the socio-economic and religious life of the yesteryears.

Museum of Social History of Punjab PAU houses unique Museum of Social History of Punjab, which mirrors university's involvement with state's folklore and culture as much as it reflects the village life. The museum; displays old agricultural implements and tools, junkets used to decorate draught animals; is a repository of cultural ethos and traditions, shows off kitchenware, Persian well, free-time vocations that engage the women; depicts typical 'real-life'situations in rural Punjab and what have you.

The Museum was built in a 1971 with inspiration of RS Randhawa, it's inspired by the local Punjabi architecture. Within the Museum one can see the items related to the rural life of Punjab prior to modernisation of agriculture. The Museum has got two floors. The only place where people would be disappointed is filming within the museum, for that one has to see permission from superintendant. Rest it's a worth visiting place, see and learn a lot from it, and try speaking in Hindi if not Punjabi, the curator over there doesn't have command on English.
