Pathra - The Village of Temples - Featured Reviews (347)
Located just 14 km from Medinipur Railway Station. This place is really beautiful. One can see the terracotta design Temples. This place also has a great historical story behind it. The Temples are situated just opposite of the Kangsaboti River. The temples are now maintained by the Archaeology Survey of India ( ASI ). This place is a perfect destination for a pocket friendly one day weekend trip with family , friends or with loved ones. Overall it's really a nice place . One can also enjoy the beautiful sunset from this place. I personally really loved the place !!
The place is awesome, it's situated at the river bank. There's no extra cost for tickets. Free entry. You should go there at afternoon and enjoy the fresh breeze of kasai river
Just 14 km from Medinipur town, stands with the monuments of National Importance in West Bengal. The several kind of temple construction seems to have begun at the beginning of the 18th century, and ended around the early 19th century. Most of the temples were built by the Ghosal (later changed to Majumdar) and Banerjee families. A major attraction is the 250-year old, 40 feet high Navaratna temple. Others attractions are Dharmaraj temple, Dalan of Kalachand, Durgeswar temple, Kachari mahal, Rasmancha and Pancha Shiva temple, ruined Temple-house, Sitala temple (also known as Burimar than) etc. The Archaeological Survey of India has taken charge of 28 temples and have repaired 18 temples and also Pathra Archeological Preservation Committee, a non-government organization, looks after the structures.
One of the best locations for one day/one afternoon trip. Sunset is recommended from the newly built riverside park. Bike and car parking is available roadside. You can reach here from Midnapore rail station or Bus stand through auto/toto(near about 30-40 mins).
Ruins of Pathra- The Temple Village of Bengal, situated on the bank of the River Kangsabati. If you are a movie buff and have watched the recent movie Bakita Byaktigoto, you will remember Mohinigram, a fantasy land where all fell in love. But this village exists in real life too, only 14 kilometres away from Midnapore. The village is known as Pathra and has a natural splendor that will mesmerize all. At present there are 34 temples in the town, the remaining are either in ruins, completely destroyed or went underwater. The historical background of Pathra returns to the Gupta age when the spot was the hinterland of Tamralipta port, an entryway to southeast Asia. From the 8th Century to the 12th Century, it was a significant centre for Sanatan Dharma. The defining moment throughout the entire existence of the town came in 1732 when Nawab Alivardi Khan designated Bidyananda Ghoshal as the revenue collector of Ratnachawk pargana.
Beautiful remote temple. Archaeology department maintain this heritage place. Different experience
Awesome place outskirts of Midnapore place is full of temples National Heritage site but it is a offbeat destination to visit not much tourists visit here .
This place popularly known as Village of Temples, In one place many temples constructed in the year 1958. It's just one side of Midnapore city, nearly 6 km from the main town. Please visit once, it's very beutiful please and maintained carefully. Very neat and clean. It's situated in the bank of Kangsabati river. ( West Midnapore).
