Paschima Vahini Srirangapatna - Featured Reviews (1051)
Love the nature.. Most of the Hindus visit to perform final rituals to their yelders n ansisters..
The place was not maintained well other than that it was good place for giving respect to our elders who are no more with us. They charge 1000 per family and the monk really did very good Pooja by explaining everything why he is doing. They charge 120 for food where onion and garlic is not used and the food was really good but 120 Rs was not worth for it. To offer food for crows where we believe our ancestors will come in the form of crow and will eat or that also they will charge 120 and lot of food will be wasted. To be practical the same food can be given to some poor people. Parking is an hectic thing during Mahalaya Amavasya.
Paschima Vahini is a historic canal system in Srirangapatna, a town located in the Indian state of Karnataka. The term "Paschima Vahini" translates to "Western Stream" in English. This canal system plays a significant role in the town's irrigation and water management. Paschima Vahini is an essential part of Srirangapatna's irrigation system, contributing to the agricultural livelihood of the region while also carrying historical and cultural significance. At Paschima Vahini in Srirangapatna, people come to the banks of the canal to perform such ancestor-focused Poojas. They may offer flowers, incense, food, and water as part of these rituals. The belief is that by doing so, they are not only showing love and respect to their ancestors but also seeking their guidance and blessings for the living members of the family.
It's designated immersion place for cremation remains, however not being maintained properly.
Paschimavahini is considered a very important place. Especially during the Mahalaya Paksha that is currently on and the Mahalaya Amavasya, falls on 14, October , 2023. Several of them come here and perform rituals to the departed soul maybe father, mother, grand father/ mother, sister and others. Number of archakas are around, and they wl perform the rituals... It is also believed that the ritual, if performed besides flowing water, and that to in Cauvery which is very important to all, wl give a lot of solace in such pristine water, and they pray to the elders who have passed away from the bottom of there hearts to lead them and the families forward and guide them and bless them in abundance. The rituals take 20 mts to half an hour, depending on the rituals performed. U ve to pay the person who performs the puja. All over the area u can notice the pujas going on simultaneously. You can also offer food to the needy, which is considered one of the best forms of charity..and in a place like this... Saturday wl be crowded ... so if u ve plans to perform the rituals, you can start early in the morning and complete it.
Place needs cleaning and regular maintenance... Steps will make it easier for senior citizens to navigate safely to the water's edge... They charge for parking but even that is poorly maintained with clothes and other ritualistic articles strewn around... Somewhere we don't respect human dignity even in death... It's quite sad to see a casual attitude by the government...
Historical & sacred place, not a complete tourist spot. Paschimavahini is where river kaveri meet at a place. Srirangapatna is an ancient city of Mysore province, filled with beauty and history. Paschimavahini, more than a tourist spot it's an auspicious place for Hindus. It's the place where pindarpanam (a ritual performed for the people who passed away) is performed. People usually come here without knowing the above reason for this place and may think the place is dirty. Not recommended for swimming here, as it's filled with ritual performed items. There are many other places nearby if you have planned for a swim. Explore the beauties of srirangapatna and visit lord rangaswamy. Happy srirangapatnam
Reported as an auspicious place to conduct shradda for ancestors. Even though, CMC srirangapatna collect Rs 100/- from every shradda organisers for keeping the premises clean, CMC should pay little more attention towards keeping it clean. Also, Govt should make policies to fix fees for every different pujas, in order to avoid exploitation, sometimes.
