Panhala fort is a identity of Kolhapur and its a gift from our god like King Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is build around AD 1200. The strategic importance of panhala, guarding one of the principal route through the western ghat
Well maintained small town full of greenary and maintained heritage sites of the fort Panhalgad such as teen darvaja, which offers a spactacular view of the valley. A short visit to the historical walk trail of Shivaji Maharaj from Panhalgad to Vishalgad, in the midst of the wild was inspiring, though most other sites of the fort are still closed due to covid. The short visit was capable of evoking a strong connection to the Maratha history and once again highlighted the larger than life persona of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj...
This place is quite intriguing. I would highly recommend you to take a guide with you as they help you understand the purposing and are able to tell the history, details, material, make, intelligence and what not information which you wouldn't have known or gone place in fort to know about. This fort has its history best know to the locals. Eye catching views, beautiful scenery. There are many restaurants, hotels, for those who wish to stay and relax at this place. There are places well maintained and walking on the trails of what once Shi ajo chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj walk made us feel honoured and emotional at the same time. The architecture, historical places, the gates are left untouched. Quite fun we had in our journey and the kind of information shared by our guide. The guide takes around 2-3 hrs to take you around the fort and explain and educate you. And they have a fee of about Rs. 500-600. We had our fun , what's stopping to have yours? Enjoy, have fun, live in the moment.
It was a stone building 55 feet by 48 feet by 35 feet high. This has an entrance and a staircase that leads to the terrace.Grain was distributed from here to the needy
A lovely hill station, a fort, one day is enough to have a look, also hotels available for stay, a peacefull place to spend a holiday, close to city of Kolhapur.
Best historical place with well maintain by Kolhapur Govt.
Along with Raigad, this is an another Shivaji's fort where 3 / 4 buildings are in a good shape. In my opinion, Self declared (bogus) MTDC tourist will catch you when you reach fort. On enquiring, they'll tell their rate as Rs 350/- for one hour of showing the fort. One can try negotiating this rate. Martyr Bajiprabhu Deshpande's statue is worth seeing.
Panhala Fort is about 20 km from Kolhapur district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located in an area called Panhala at a distance of This fort is one of the oldest forts in India. This fort has provided protection to many famous kings and many famous empires, including Bhoj II and Adil Shah. The fort is a perfect example of the fusion of Indian and Mughal culture, artwork and carvings.

This was another entrance to the fort. It was designed to elude invaders such that they would get trapped into a small courtyard and could then be easily neutralized. It has an elaborate Ganesh motif at the entrance.
I am not in a position to write any review about this historical place. Please visit and experience the great work of King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It's a hill station and my father's native place. If a get chance you can also visit the Pawankhind

Excellent stay at Magadh resort with a good lake view. Food was great too. Best resort at the most reasonable price. Staff were friendly, rooms were clean. Only small issue was there was no hot water in one of the two rooms we booked, other than that
Very well maintained garden in Panhala fort. Good for morning walks and for people who want to enjoy bird watching and serenity of trees. A must visit place if visiting Panhala fort. Recommended to visit post monsoon as trees would be lush green.
