Omkareshwar Dam is built over Narmada River near Omkareshwar Temple which is just downstream. Built during 2003-2007. Has a height of 53 m. Helps in irritation and production of 525 MW of electricity. Boat ride is available from Omkareshwara Temple on both banks of Narmada. However boats are spewing polluting black smoke and are noisy. Sunrise and sunset provide pleasant views.
It is a 949 m long and 33 m high concrete dam with an electricity generation capacity of 520 MW. It has 23 redial gates of 20*17 metres. It is the fastest completed hydroelectric project in the country from 2004 to 2006. This dam started functioning from 2007. A reservoir of several square kilometers has been created from this dam, in which beautiful islands have been formed. On which various tourism projects are being developed.

We visited Omkareshwar temple and while on boating in the Narmada river, saw this huge dam close to the temple. Out of curiosity, I started reading on the project and found out that this dam is basically an irrigation focussed and hydroelectric power generating dam. I also explored there were many controversies around this project. It is amazing that Omkareshwar temple is situated not more than 1 km in the down stream of the river and further down in the downstream is the sangam if kaveri and narmada river
As name suggests Omkareshwar dam is constructed near Omkareshwar Temple. It is hydro power project generating electricity. It also provides irrigation water to the area nearby. It's a blessing to the people os Madhya pradesh. Water released from Omkareshwar dam is goes to Sardar Sarovar narmada dam of Gujarat. If you like my review please like it...
