Someone arranged a heritage walk to this place and we were lucky to have the doors opened for us. Sitting right in the centre of the city, this observatory hosts Asia's largest telescope. There were three watch towers in total. I really hope the Government makes a move to renovate this and let people experience the heritage of the city beyond the usual places. I heard the towers are always locked and people are not allowed to visit unless permitted. So, please don't just walk in.
It was started some time in 1901 at Phisslbanda which later shifted sometime in 1914 to present place where there are two defunct towers are there . Since the observatory shifted to Rangapur in 1940s, these two towers with broken wooden are prohibited to public entry . Barbed wire fence protects the civil structures which are more than 100 years old . Osmania University's centre of economic and social studies buildings exists now with some untouched vegetation which is also more than 100 years old
This was a famous observatory. Not in use now. But the centuries old building is still existing. The nearby fort building (not to miss seeing) is maintained just like a monument and being used for a school for the mentally retarded. We can enter the building when the school is open with the permission of the concerned authorities available there.
Lovely place . Historical and technically proud to be hyderabadi
Beautiful observatory. one of the best I have seen. This observatory is home to one of the biggest refractor telescopes in Asia. In order to get into the observatory, you need to write a letter requesting the entry to the structure. This beautiful place can be still maintained better
It's under Osmania university and not allowed to the public. Only after government permission can one enter it. It has two observatories and each one has one telescope inside it but due to renovation no one is allowed to enter inside to these.
Amazing Place, But need Restoration and Renovation.. This can be another Tourist Destination..!
Horrible place .. No one is there .. There is a school for mentally disabled people
