Getting there is a bit tricky with the bad condition of roads. But the dam and surrounding areas are well maintained with a near garden and viewing area. Yet to try the safaris, but already such a wonderful experience.
At the base of the Western Ghats, approximately 30 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram, is the Neyyar Dam, a gravity dam on the Neyyar River in the district of Thiruvananthapuram, South India. It is a well-liked picnic location that was founded in 1958. The major a here are.. Lion safari park (Not open anymore due to the lions not breeding) Boating Deer park Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre Miniature wild life sanctuary Lake garden Swimming pool Watch tower Elephant riding
A calm, scenic place, with a beautiful dam - a view that's especially inviting for a camera if the skies are clear and the dam shutters are open. Once in, there is quite a bit to do here. We went for a boating - just the 5 of us in a boat meant for more folks - with stops at the Deer Park and the Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre. The Lion Safari was not open at that point since a few of the lionesses were undergoing medical support. The view from the watch tower is absolutely breath-taking if you're game to climb up all those stairs. A lovely half- to full-day trip from Thiruvananthapuram city.
Today we have visited this place. Very very nice place and must visit once especially the two hours boating trip. It's a marvelous journey.
It's a beautiful place to explore the nature. The scenarios are very beautiful as I shared the above pictures, neyyar dam includes lion safari parks which is the 1st lion safari park in Asia but now there is no lion or that park. I think for better tourism reopening of the park is a better solution and include more activities for tourists
Thanks to the rains Dam was open, it was an unusual sight. We went there specifically for Lion Safari, but the official said it was closed down in 2020 and never opened. Only boating was available. It cost Rs250 per head ,but either boat should have 15 passengers or wait for 1 hour and only then the journey would start. We had to wait for around 40 minutes after taking tickets. One can also pay for private boat for Rs2500 per hour. But its not worth the money. The boat took us around Neyyar Dam, with 2 stops at Elephant park and Deer Rehabilitation center. Both of these centers can be visited by road as well.
Great place to have time with family, friends, kids of school/coll. Great views. Public not helping cleanliness. Authorities should put more effort into making the park better. Couldnt figure out where the aquarium was. Couldnt visit ktdc restaurant.
It's a nice place to feel & experience the nature along with western ghats & Neyar wildlife sanctuary. KSRTC buses are available to Neyyar Dam If you are coming by bus you can hire bus from Kattakada KSRTC bus stand. Boating, Deer park, Crocodile park,Watch tower ...Etc are the main attraction.
Best place for weekend trip. You will get a ticket 2500/- for 5 people. Which include boating, crocodile park and dear park. All staffs are friendly and helpful. Small snacks counter available. Renovation work is going on.
