The museum is a great place for all art lovers and who r intrested in the history. The place contains what not, mohanjodaro to britiahers, budha to mughals, paintings to sculptures, weapons to gods, the museum is beautifully designed and the art affect place their will make u more curious to know about thing. For an art lover make sure u have a entire day to explore, in case u are a passer by then also how u spent 2 3 hour u wont realize. Great place to be at.
The place is huge! One day is most definitely not enough to explore the whole place. All the artefacts and knowledge about ancient civilisations is something worth spending time on. For students it's great way to experience ancient Indian civilisations. The artefacts are well preserved and presented. The museum also has audio guides, you can rent audio tour guide having headphones which gives brief details about the museum and artefact in front of the viewer.w
If you like to think about India only as Gandhi country, don't go there. If you like to think about India only for the bargains and street chaos, don't go there. If you remember smels and flavours when you ear the word India, don't go there. But if you want to know more about indian art, indian coins, indian craftesman skills and, above all, if you want to be in presence of the Buddha relics, you cannot miss this museum!.
Most of the museum is about the rich indian history. Very important place. Worth visiting. It's so special because of the holy bone relics of Buddha. We should appreciate the archeological survey of India for protecting the holy relics. But It's not fare to keep the holy bone relics of the Buddha in a museum. According to the last words of the Buddha in 'Maha Parinibbana Sutta', his holy bone relics should enshrine in a Stupa as the people can respect and gain positive potential (merits). But in this Museum they have place the holy relics in a showcase kind of mandap and show a notice saying that 'No offerings'. It's not good to play with the religions as it hurts deep in ones heart.
The National Museum in New Delhi, also known as the National Museum of India, is one of the largest museums in India. Established in 1949, it holds variety of articles ranging from pre-historic era to modern works of art. It functions under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India
The museum has in its possession over 200,000 works of art, of both Indian and foreign origin, covering more than 5,000 years of the rich cultural heritage of different parts of the world.
This is one of my favorite place and has plethora of things to cherish, understand and feel Indian Art and Culture viz. coinage, paintings, sculpture and many more... The special editions they put is worth watch. This place I would recommend... Reach by 10am and u can roam till 5pm even if outside temperature is 40+degC... In evening go to India Gate, War Memorial strolling... And yeah from there either CP or Rashtrapati bhawan. :)
Best place to spend a day and learn new things. It includes medieval period, modern history, Harappan culture, Gupta umpire etc. Traditional architects, so type of coins (coin gallery), ancient arms (arms gallery), ancient musical instruments, ships, scripts (Rising of Devnagri), Traditional wears. All about mughals, Delhi sultanate etc etc etc. And the list still goes on. Do check it out this place. It is worth spending time here.
