Its an awesome place for paintings and sculptor, as the collection is very diverse.A new initiative for divyang people is a section in which replicas can be touched and felt.I also tried it and found it very satisfying. However 1day is not enough to cover all the sections if you plan to read the information boards. At the entrance we have a "5 storey wooden chariot" placed inside a glass chamber. It is very well carved. Highly recommended place for anyone who has an inquisitiveness for arts and culture.
This is very amazing museum that I have ever visit. There are many cultural things shown in the museum and there is also very historical things shown that also full of like a adventurous journey. If you are from a art background you must visit here. There are very antique peaces related to our history.
This review is difficult to write.. because while the museum is indeed very well set up and would undoubtedly be an enjoyable experience for art and relic lovers, I did not find it interesting at all as I didn't expect the National Museum to be just another art museum. In the capital of the country, bearing the title of National Museum, I would expect it to expound on the growth of a nation. I would expect it to detail how everyday life changes from the early days of the land to the advent of the British to achieving independence, not to mention everything in between like Ghandi, The Partition, etc. I've visited museums all over the world and have always enjoyed their stories of nation-building. Thus, I find it strange that I am unable locate a single museum in India that share its progress from the past to the present, and I cannot believe that I am the only person who is frustrated by this void. Why is one of the oldest civilizations in the world not telling their story?
National museum has several historical artefacts from ancient history to modern history. Dancing girl, stones, burial from rakhigarhi ( indus valley civilization) and many coins from gupta period , mauryan period. Specially Ashoka edict is there, it's very interesting to watch these things.
I visited this place in Oct 2016 . It's near the india gate . You have to reach central Secretariat metro if you coming from metro. Amazing Awesome it's most interesting place for me . I love my nation and love it's history. If you are scholar you can't see this place in one go. Before visited this place I read history in ncert text and never seen thing found in excavation with my naked eyes. But here you see all these things.
National Museum, New Delhi, as we see it today, has an interesting beginning. The blueprint for establishing the National Museum in Delhi was prepared by the Maurice Gwyer Committee in May 1946. An Exhibition of Indian Art, consisting of selected artefacts from various museums of India was organized by the Royal Academy, London with the cooperation of Government of India and Britain. The Exhibition went on display in the galleries of Burlington House, London during the winter months of 1947-48. It was decided to display the same collection in Delhi, before the return of exhibits to their respective museums. An exhibition was organized in the the Rashtrapati Bhawan (President's residence), New Delhi in 1949, which turned out to be a great success. This event proved responsible for the creation of the National Museum. The success of this Exhibition led to the idea that advantage should be taken of this magnificent collection to build up the nucleus collection of the National Museum. State Governments, Museum authorities and private donors, who had participated in the exhibition, were approached for the gift or loan of artefacts, and most of them responded generously.
The National museum is situated near the Rajpath which covers the monuments like Rajbhavan and India gate.It has proper arrangements of security personnels right from entrance till exit. The place is well equipped for physically challenged people as well as differently abled people. One of the major attraction are audio guide of the campus which provides support in most of the majorly spoken languages. The place is spacious , very well arranged and maintained too. It filled me with many news exciting question although many of my already existing doubts were cleared and I also corrected my facts which were incorrectly recorded. It has 3 floors and it gives you so much information that after a while you realise u need a full day or two days to throughly enjoy this masterpiece created by the archaeological department of Indian government. The capmus also homes a cafeteria to get urself some desrved snacks and refreshments. Some sexlctions were closed for maintenance purpose which gives u a reason to visit again because no part is worth missing.Overall I had and amazing experience visiting this place.
