I stay opposite side of the road to this gallery and see this building every day. There is a charm in this place, visited quite a number of times being in my proximity (75meters precisely). The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is a prestigious institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art in India. With its branches in New Delhi and Mumbai, it serves as a prominent platform for the exhibition, preservation, and promotion of Indian and international modern art. The NGMA houses an extensive collection of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, and more. It showcases the works of renowned Indian artists as well as influential international artists, offering visitors a diverse and enriching artistic experience. The gallery plays a vital role in fostering dialogue and appreciation for modern and contemporary art. It hosts curated exhibitions, retrospectives, and thematic displays that explore various artistic movements and perspectives. These exhibitions often feature educational programs, workshops, and interactive sessions, making art accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages. The architecture of the NGMA itself is noteworthy, blending traditional and modern elements. The spacious galleries and well-curated displays create an inviting and immersive environment for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Visiting the National Gallery of Modern Art provides an opportunity to explore the evolution of Indian art, witness groundbreaking works, and gain insights into the creative processes of artists. It is a must-visit destination for those interested in the vibrant world of modern and contemporary art in India.
Went to see an exhibition organised by Air India. The paintings and work of art displayed were beyond inspiration. Most of them were created four decades ago and they were looking so new. Hats off to all the artists for their brilliant piece of work, especially B Prabh and also the curator, who organised the event.

We visited and were about to pay 500 for entrance when we were told the only gallery open was Textile exhibits. All other galleries closed. Their website (on 'Current Status') does mention that it is closed for floor maintenance until next year (2024) sometime. Don't make a special journey unless you want to see Textiles only and prepared to pay 500 rupees.
This butterfly-shaped gallery with a dome in the centre attracts art lovers from different parts of India. It is the brainchild of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Humayun Kabir and Maulana Azad, and shows you how visual and plastic art forms have evolved over time. Art collections of important civilizations, artists and sculptors have found their rightful place in this contemporary gallery. You can explore the artworks by Pablo Picasso as well as many Egyptian artefacts here which makes it one of the best places in Mumbai for art fanatics. If you are into paintings and modern art this place is a heaven. The store sells some outstanding prints so I will say it is a must buy. I'm case you wish to learn how to light and display paintings then also this is such a masterclass. The staff is extremely friendly and the shop is worth spending time in. I would recommend it for everyone. You need to maintain silence as the place has options for people to study art as well as view in peace
