Narangi- a small quiet neighbourhood on the eastern extremeties of Guwahati (and the place where my Father decided to build his future abode way back in the year 1978)- has an interesting history. The Narangi Railway Station (see image) was built during the Second World War . British troops used to get down at this Station and proceed to the Army Cantonment in southern Narangi. Upon arrival in the Cantonment, the soldiers were pleased to find an orange garden in the vicinity (a place called Kamala Bagan on the VIP Road connecting Narangi to Six Mile bears testimony to this statement) The sweet succulent oranges gave our locality its present name (Narangi means Orange in Hindi). Fast forward to 2020, and Narangi, although small, is definitely not quiet any more. Do ask your elders about the history of your respective localities.
