Nandi - Hindu temple in Mysuru - Mysuru, India

An imposing and huge Nandi Bull statue on the hill is definitely worth visiting. From the Chamundeshwari temple, it's around 15 mins trek one way, downward journey towards the Nandi bull is ofcourse easier but the way back, same route, is a vertical and steep even though with stairs. If you do this trek, you get at least one superb view point for clicking pictures of the city from the hill

For going chamundi hills please read Wikipedia page.. if you go via vehicle you will reach cumandeshwari temple but there is other way also which has 1000 steps it's depend on you how you want to go... This nandi is expected to be 2000 year old but it doesn't look like that... It's a good sculpture and on the other side of the hill from chamundeshwari temple... it's on the steps way.

The Nandi idol on the way to Sri Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru is a breathtaking monolith that commands awe and reverence. As I approached the magnificent sculpture, I marveled at its colossal size and intricate detailing, a testament to the craftsmanship of ancient artisans. Compared to the ones in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, and Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu, this Nandi stands out for its sheer scale and imposing presence. While all three Nandi idols exude spiritual significance, the one in Mysuru holds a unique charm, perfectly complementing the divine energy of the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple and leaving a lasting impression on pilgrims and art enthusiasts alike.

About 16 feet in height and 24 feet long, this Nandi atop the Chamundi Hills is the third largest in India. The creation of this colossal image is attributed to Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar (1659-1673) on of the illustrious Maharajas of Mysore. It is the same maharaja who also commissioned the 1000 stepped stairway to the hilltop. More than 350 years old, this is one of the oldest icons in Mysore. The Nandi is located almost at the 3/4th the way to the hilltop. The main road to hilltop arrives at a "View Point" junction. The right fork leads to Nandi (2km) and the straight road leads to the main shrine of Chamundeswari further at the top of the hill. The 2km road to nandi is broken, so the only way to get there is walk 2kms. The road is flat and takes 20-30 min to reach. There is an old shiva temple in the cave behind the nandi.

This is an amazing spiritually and beautifully carved Nandhi statue situated little over half way to Chanundeshwari Temple on top of Chamundi hill. You can reach this location either by foot by climbing stairs from Mysuru or by vehicle through dedicated paved one way road. There is also a Cave Shiva temple right next to Nandhi statue. This area been well maintained, there are many vendors including food and beverage. Watch for monkies because they love your food.

Big ancient Nandi in chamundi hills. Seems that there are four of them in each direction and this one is the biggest of the lot. In my younger days I remember to see this entire bull in black color and now the rennovation has changed its colour. Huge repai work in progress due to which vehicles are not allowed but you can go by walk.

It's a great place to visit once you visit chamundeshwari temple in Mysore. It's the biggest Nandi I have ever seen. Usually only Nandi is rare to be seen, I wonder where is Shiva in this case. Nandi is mesmerising. Very beautiful. Road to reach there is under construction but car can reach there from other way which is not tar but motorable. Steps are also available be very rarely used by anyone. Kids love to see this big sculpture. I would love to visit again.

Nandi Mandir is there en route to Chamundi temple. Currently access to Nandi is limited due to road under construction and vehicle have to go slow to reach temple. Carvings on Nandi are worth to observe and not to be missed.
