Small place but packed with some good food, Murugan Idli are known for their Ghee Podi Idlis and Podi Dosas. And that's what we tried here as well, we visited here during lunch time although they had mini meals, but we decided to go for what they are best at. We tried their Ghee Podi Dosa and Ghee Podi Idli, super soft idlis nicely coated with ghee and Pudi which takes it to next level. They serve some 3-4 varieties of chutney, 1 coconut chutney, 1 tomato, 1 onion, 1 coriander and Sambar. Dosa (Dosai) was also superb, size is big, crispy and nicely coated with ghee and podi. Service is quick, staff are very humble, although we didn't know Tamil, they were kind enough to keep patience and understand what we were asking for.
Superb food. Great quality. Wonderful variety. Hospitable staff. Amazing place to try authentic south indian in Chennai.
Not a great place. We tried for the first time and we were utterly disappointed with both their food and the service. We ordered few items and it was served very late compared to the other tables. We tried ghee roast, idli, sweet pongal, sweet appam, kuli paniyaram and karuvapillai idli. They keep asking us what we want but the service was way too late. Even the atmosphere was not great. So I should say we would never go back again to this place.
Their podi idli, sambar was good where as ghee masala thosai was average. Thick sambar gravy. Service was quick and coffee was ordinary. Sweet ponggal was kinda too sweet but the ghee made it taste good.
Recently we visited Chennai. We went to Murugan Idli Shop. Very clean and well managed. We ate the best Podi Idli in the town. It's really a Mouth watering. The staff are polite and helpful.
very good vegetarian restaurant in T.Nagar. have been visiting since 2001. same authentic taste. sweet Pongal is very famous.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming establishment with my in-laws, and while our experience had its ups and downs, there were certainly highlights worth sharing. Upon entering, the ambiance of the place set the stage for what we hoped would be a delightful dining experience. The decor and atmosphere were inviting, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. The food, for the most part, was quite good. We couldn't resist indulging in a variety of delectable dishes, and the diverse selection of idlies was a real treat for our taste buds. They were prepared to perfection, and we relished every bite. However, there were a couple of instances where we felt that the menu prices didn't quite match the value delivered. Our servers, while polite, occasionally encouraged us to opt for some of the more expensive items, labeling them as "special dishes." Unfortunately, in our opinion, these dishes turned out to be fairly ordinary, leaving us with a feeling of slight disappointment. We encountered a situation with the Rava dosa, where the server added the term 'onion' to it, resulting in an additional fifty rupees on our bill, which wasn't what we had anticipated. Furthermore, there was an issue with the pricing of the paniaram. Our server initially informed us that it was priced at 45 rupees, but to our surprise, it appeared as 68 rupees on the final bill. When we inquired about the discrepancy, the server seemed uncertain about the exact prices, which left us feeling somewhat frustrated. This kind of misunderstanding and miscommunication should certainly be addressed by the management. One aspect that stood out to us was the portion size of the paniaram. We received only three pieces, which we felt were not worth the premium price charged. It would have been more reasonable to align the cost with the quantity and quality of the dish.
Worst service offered here, I did not ask podi and ghee they just layed it in my leaf I thought it was part of the offering and in the final while I was checking the bill they are saying it's extra cost. Even though it's a small amount laying something which we have not asked and asking to pay for it as extra charge is cheap tactics.
