Mrugaya Xpeditions - Tour operator in Vasco da Gama - South Goa, India

We visited Mrugaya in October 2021. Celebrated my birthday there. I have been on the lookout for an eco sensitive lodge who would lead herping trails in Amboli. That's when I came across Mrugaya Nature Retreat. And the best thing is, they also do have a campsite/home stay in one my my favorite jungles in Goa, which I will be visiting soon. The resident staff is kind and supportive at all times. Be aware that lunch is not served at the site. The lunch you will have to manage on your own. Dinner you could order through the staff and it would be made available at the campsite from outside. Breakfast is served at the site and is included in the price and it's amazing. The place is raw and rustic. It's the kind of place I like. Your sole purpose to be here has to be to connect with nature. If you are spoilt for luxury, this is not the place. If your expectation is a cozy cabin, in the wilderness with modest amenities, then this is the place for you. Gajanan is a great Naturalist and is very knowledgeable. We had great sightings too. Saw about 7 or 8 Malabar pit vipers with other interesting stuff. I will be going here over and over again. Check out some pictures from the site.

We stayed at the Jungle Trails Home stay in Goa and the Mrugaya property at Amboli (Both coordinated and managed by Mrugaya Expeditions) over a span of 5 days and thouroughly enjoyed the entire experience. While the local, home-cooked Goan vegetarian cuisine at Jungle trails was a welcome addition to our nature trails, the property itself is located in a quiet village adjacent to Bhagwan Mahavir National Park, making it an idyllic drive and destination once you reach Goa. The no-network zone was a blessing in disguise. Omkar was our naturalist for the entire duration of the trip. His keen observational skills impressed us on a daily basis. Avian or macro species, his ears and eyes can spot wildlife activity amazingly well. Although the property in Amboli serves only breakfast, a local restaurant tie up provides a convenient option for other meals. Got to spot 3 species of snakes in Amboli during the visit including the Malabar Pit Viper. Both the properties were clean, well-maintained, have friendly & helpful staff and are located in areas that makes it ideal for those seeking shades of beautiful green and ecoliteracy. I'd happily recommend their services and look forward to future trips with the team.

They are very prompt in sightings, identifying, opportunities of photographing, covering the planned area as per the group member's capacity. They serve good quality food, tasty and healthy. Rooms are clean and pleasant, good enough for two people for comfortable stay. A perfect home stay in the midst of lush greenb surroundings with many birds sighting and chirping throughout the campus. A must visit for any nature lover for hangout or serious birding, helping, exploring the nature.

The first time I had been with them on a birding trip in 2016 astonished me the way they run their tours which was different from others, I have been with till date (excluding 1 or 2). The knowledge they possess on the eco-system specially which I have experienced on my trips/tours till date helped me understand & gain info on the species which was a good learning. On the field they are one among the best so far I have come across with regards to birding and macro. 2018 I had a great time with 3 consecutive trips for Macro photography. Good people, will have great experience, lots of knowledge sharing is what i got and cant end this without a BIG THANK YOU to Omkar and Parag and of course everyone at Mrugaya.

We stayed at Mrugaya Xpeditions Goa homestay. It is as simple and comfortable as home with simple and delicious local food. Our main purpose of the visit was to experience the jungle and had a blast with Omkar. His ears and eyes all scanned the jungle to share the treasures of the jungle with us. We observed nearly 100 bird species with him in a 2 day period. We had a great time. Hats off to his knowledge and sensitivity towards nature. Our whole trip, right from picking us up at the station, walks in the jungle, the bird watching river cruise, to dropping us off went off smoothly. Thank you to Mrugaya Xpeditions and especially to Omkar. Looking forward to having another trip with you soon.

Just back from an excellent birdwatching week in Goa being guided by Omkar. He helped us to find over 200 species of birds as well as various mammals, reptiles and amphibians. He is an excellent naturalist, as well as a good organiser, arranging accommodation for us at Nature's Nest and Tanishkar Spice Farm. Omkar's guiding skills are highly recommended.

Exciting night Herp trail and peaceful stay at Mrugaya. I highly recommend both- thanks to Omkar's knowledge and enthusiasm, we saw Gaur, two kinds of pit vipers, bio luminescent fungi and lots more. We had an insect enthusiast and a tree enthusiast in the group, all of us returned impressed with Omkar's identification skills. The stay was at a simple cottage, with delicious home made food. Booking was easy and though we were late, everything went smoothly. Highly recommended and we plan to do more trails with Mrugaya.
