Mr Idli Kalyan - South Indian restaurant in Kalyan - Thane, India

I recently ordered takeaway from Mr Idli Kalyan, and I must say, it was quite a disappointing experience. Firstly, the guy taking my order mentioned that it would be ready in 5 minutes, but it ended up taking around 15 minutes. Patience is a virtue, but it's a bit frustrating when you're promised a short wait and it turns out to be much longer. I noticed that they had recently printed a new menu. However, the prices on the menu were incorrect, and this is something they should have rectified before handing it out to customers. To make matters worse, the prices listed were exclusive of taxes, which can be quite misleading. Inside the restaurant, I couldn't help but sense an atmosphere of power dominance in the kitchen, as there was a lot of shouting going on. It's not exactly the kind of environment you'd want to associate with a pleasant dining experience. The person ordering next to me seemed irritated that what she wanted was not available, which further added to the negative vibe. As I waited for my order, I took a peek into the kitchen, and I must say it did not look very clean. Cleanliness is crucial in any food establishment, and this was a letdown. When I finally received my Mysore Masala Dosa, I opened it with anticipation, only to find a strand of hair in it. Hygiene is paramount when it comes to food preparation, and this was a major hygiene issue. To top it all off, the dosa was prepared in a way that the cheese had been shredded on top and then wrapped with paper and aluminum foil. Unfortunately, when I unwrapped it, most of the cheese had stuck to the paper, leaving me with a less-than-desirable dosa experience. In terms of taste, the dosa was mediocre at best. It didn't live up to the South Indian culinary standards I had hoped for. On a slightly positive note, the ambience of the place was decent, with 8 tables available for seating. If there's one thing this restaurant has going for it, it's a good seating area. All in all, I did not enjoy my experience at Mr Idli Kalyan. The only time I would recommend visiting is when all you need is a place to sit, as the overall dining experience left much to be desired.

We went in afternoon, only rava dosa was good and thate idli was okay okay rest everything was not good, we tried jini dosa, chilly idli was not that good, even chutney and sambhar were not good, also one of waiter told that evening chefs are different. But anyways it was not wow..

During evening walk along Vasant Valley, saw Mr. Idly signboard. On the spur of moment, me and my wife were drawn in by the wiff of fresh aroma. The place has limited tables so had to wait for few minutes, but it was worth waiting, the menu was vast but the owner personally guided us in choosing Thatte podi idli and other dosas and what a wonderful authentic preparations served on banana leaf accompanied with coconut cutney, tomatoes chutney and perfect sambar, followed by best filter coffee. Rates were reasonable and value for money. There is also fusion idlis and dosas and paneer starters. New place and more tables coming up soon. The franchise pays personal attention to customers and respectful. Kitchen is clean with latest equipment. Worth visiting to taste authentic South Indian cuisine in its original form. Just loved it at first sight.

However, it's worth noting that if you're looking for fancy fusion dishes like Jini Dosa, this might not be the place for you. Stick to their traditional offerings, and you'll leave with a satisfied palate. Overall, a delightful experience for those seeking authentic South Indian cuisine in a warm and inviting setting.

Really good cafe restaurant for varieties of idli and dosas. We tried thatte idli, pizza dosa, masala dosa and coffee. All are really good dishes. Good service by staff and owner

Kalyan has finally got its new South Indian authentic food place which you can't miss Their paper dosa which was around 3ft long along with filter coffee were a perfect combination and burst of flavours They also provide up with healthy options that is authentic perasattu dosa We also tried their idli chilly which was sauteed in a Chinese sauce and tasted so yummy The star of the dinner were Thatte idli and podi idli Definitely going to visit again for Thatte idli as we totally loved the flavours and the texture

A variety of South indian dishes to try. Good taste but could be better, also quite pricy

Good place for South Indian food lover's (note: this is the little modified version of Southe Indian food). One may not call it authentic but this can be called fusion South Indian food. However Taste is good. One can go here for "filling" food also. Well managed for hygiene and service. Rates are mildly high with funky named dishes.
