Motijhil (also Motijheel, literal translation: Pearl Lake), also known as Company due to its association with the East India Company,[1] is a horse-shoe shaped lake in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India.[2] [3] It was created by Nawazish Muhammad Khan, the son-in-law of Nawab Alivardi Khan. He also constructed a precious palatial palace beside this lake which is called the Sang-i- dalan (literal translation:stone palace) which is also known as the Motijhil Palace. It is located at the bend of this lake. It was used as the residence of Nawazish and Ghaseti Begum, Nawazish's beloved wife.[4] It is said that after Nawazish died, Ghaseti Begum lived here until Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah took over the palace and seized the residents' in 1756 AD. With this money he built a similar lake with a beautiful palace, Hirajheel, on the opposite side of the Bhagirathi River. The palace has a lofty gateway, a mosque known as the "Shahamat Jang" and the Kala Masjid and some other buildings which were all built by Nawazish. This palace was built in 1740. As far as etymology is concerned, the palace has been named so as it was built using black basalt pillars which were brought from the ruins of Gaur. Thus, it was given the name of Sang-i-Dalan or the Stone Palace. This palace was then decorated with different varieties of flower plants and precious marbles.

Amazing place to take a break. It's a beautiful garden with historical artifacts and the lake, and wait till the evening to enjoy the lights and the dancing fountain. There are cottages, rooms and a huge hall which is available for booking for parties or stuff. It even has a food court at the exit, but the food quality is not so good, just eatable.

Very nice place to visit for couple and also for family..Its open from 10 am to 8 pm...you will get last ticket on 7pm...after that you will not get any ticket..so come before 7 pm...here you will get board rides..also very natural weather and climate for family and also for kids you will get a park where kids can njoy their time.. and here you will get to see a show about the historical 'Palashi War' and SirajUdDulla..

Beautiful garden and some pleasant natural view.. Rose garden is a major point of attraction. . Some technical issue is going on with the light and sound show right now otherwise this is a best place in murshidabad to hang around with friends and family.

Awesome programm8ng and commentary, the ambience created is electric and all in all not bad at all. Well kept and maintained. The only thing lacking is more battery operated vehicles for elderly people as it is absolutely at the other end of the park from the entrance.

NICE PLACE TO SPENT SOME TIMES AND ALSO HAVE FOOD COURT HERE. THANKS FOR MAI NTAINING CLEANING AREA PROVIDED FOR THE VISITORS. ALSO HERE LIGHT AND SOUNDS SHOW AS WELL AS LOVELY VISITOR COTTAGE FOR STAYING HERE.
