Moti Mahal is now operating as Gwalior Smart City office. We went on SUNDAY... no office... no people... very quiet. We took Rs 20 ticket to visit Darbar hall, Raag Raagini painting hall.... astonishing paintings and the darbar hall made me speechless. Must visit place in Gwalior and needs to be preserved appropriately. Such a beautiful architecture. I feel that it is let it like this not knowing the preciousness of it. Needs to be maintained properly. Once you visit can recognize the value. Amazing mural paintings, the golden polished celing, the chandelier...marvelous work.... especially the Raagraagini paintings at the top floor... no words to explain... visit and experience and enjoy it.. easily reachable Monday to Saturday office operates... Sunday is free so can take enough time to explore each part of the palace.
Awesome place.....Moti Mahal is the oldest Mahal. You can visit here free of cost. This place is also for pre-wedding shoots. In front of Moti Mahal there is a lake or pond, you can also enjoy boat riding in this. But the water is not so clean.
Moti Mahal is an eye catching structures in Gwalior. It used to be the secretariat of then Madhya Bharat Government. It was built in the 19th century it was originally founded by Ranoji Shinde, inspired by the Peshwa Palaces in Pune, with rich collections of Wall Paintings. The walls of this palace are featured with mosaic work of coloured glass and murals depicting the Ragas and Raginis. Moti Mahal was also known as Heritage building of Scindia Dynasty.The interior has beautiful tempera colours, paintings of Hindu Mythology, scenes from Darbars and Processions. With over 300 rooms, The Scindia Dynasty's darbar used to held within the Moti Mahal premises. The place is now a state government office. It is open during the office hours, and anyone can visit here. It is advisable to just see the stranger and not create a mess around the palce as it is a office place. The garden in place is very beautiful, and you spent great time just looking at the structure by sitting in the garden. There is not entry fees and there are also no strict timings. You will not be able to go inside as it a office area, so make sure you don't bother the people around. It is also not so far from the railway station and you can easily reach here.

In front of it their is "Baija Tal" which is famous for boating in present time. Distance from city center is 4KM. Opening hours is 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Saturday. You'll love that place when you go their.
