This historic place has witnessed the struggle of Veerapandiya Katra bomman. He is said to have been hiding here during his visit to Ramanathapuram. Now this monument is in a highly damaged state. Nobody knows about its historic importance. If properly renovated it will be a major landmark of Ramanathapuram.

Moolakothalam is a bastion for erstwhile Ramanathapuram Samsthanam. Kattapommu of Panchalamkuruchi hide in this place while trying to escape from the British. Now it is residential area. Tamil nadu housing board promoted layout and a matriculation also located in this area.
