Mithi River - River in Mumbai - Konkan, India

Because of salted water around the Mumbai this river called Mithi ( Sweat) River by it local resident. But now it turned like a seaver drainage line.

I really felt so bad while saying that once this was the Mithi River, but now it has been turned to Mithi drainage, super abundant amount of garbage dumped in it, water is reddish, I really felt like vomiting due to super stinky smell in the river, most bad thing is that this all dump is being drained in Arabian Sea thus rapidly ruining the beaches on the shores.

In Hindi, Mithi means "sweet", but the water in the short river that flows through the city of Mumbai ceased to be sweet decades ago. Floating garbage started to cover its surface, barely allowing the water to be seen and the beaches around its mouth were considered the most polluted in the world 10 years ago. Now, citizens and the government fight to recover the degraded environment of the most populated city in India. Until the late 19th century, the Mithi River was actually a water course with water flowing only in the monsoon season.

A water transport route would be of greater use if government or any private sector takes an initiative to cleanse it. Also Mumbaikars would feel proud to have an river which most of the people don't know. Mumbai has mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, coastal area, etc so much of natural beauty but no one wants to enjoy. People here are just behind money and fame.

once upon a time it was river, now it's a Savage drain only , since last fifty years land mafia builders, developer and corrupt BMC officers eaten all it's land, during rainy season because of in proper drain water facility all near by area or neighbouring area flooded with water. Unless and until authority remove and bottle neck the problem remain unsolved.

It was a river once, with calmly flowing water and clean environament. But now it's a medium for garbage disposal. Why are we like this. Why people dump wate into river.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation may claim it has finished 95% of the work on deepening and widening the Mithi river at a cost of Rs659.83 crore, but, point out environmentalists, nothing has been done to improve the health of the river

This is not a river this is savage drain so so dirty in front of MTNL office infact thare is so offices like income tax. CA institute and many type of they want to do something for clean the River
