The way to the falls is surrounded by greenery scenes, just a one day trip kindof location , about the falls, water is chill but there is no big space around the falls like coutralam. And the height also minimal, u can just go one day as outing and chill. And for ladies and children no proper dressing rooms are there. I changed in my car. So please take care. U have to carry own food , there is no big restaurants nearby, just small small Vada shops only there.
Those who love trekking, u cannot find this kind of trekking anywhere. It is a different kind, while reaching falls, u need to get down and while coming back u need to climb 2 hills. Up and down will take nearly 3 to 4 hours. Falls is awesome pure white clean water. Not suitable for family and kids, but no issues ladies can do trekking here no fear of security its safe. Take water and food.
Really worth to go - If you love Falls! Keep in mind, Onward trek - 1 hour Return trek - 1 to 1.30 hours. "Difficult path leads to beautiful destiny" Yes! It's really worth if you could manage the trekking! Please take food or snacks and water... !!
The place was so... Amazing as expected.. But.. One thing we want to inform you that.. From the destination.. Maradipattu.. We have travelled.. Around 8 kms. Inside the forest without even knowing that, the falls... Is there or not at that location... No coverage of signal after crossing that village... So take necessary things... U have to travel inside the forest atleast 2-3 hours... So.. Kindly do not take ur family.. If ur willing... Go as.. Bachelor's
Megam falls is on Salem to Chennai hwy about 47 KM from Kallakuruchi town. On the way first stop is Gowmukhi dam you can stop to take a quick walk then proceed to first view point from their you can see the entire Gowmukhi dam. Then you can proceed to next stop is Periyar falls which is a small falls. Then you can head to Mavadipattu village where you can park your vehicle from there on you have to take on your feet. Local villagers are very helpful and you can take the route details from them before you start. There is also one or two guide available and you can take their service if they are free, we went by ourselves. Total trekking distance is about 4 KM and the last 700 mts is very steep and little dangerous terrain. It took about 1 hr 45 mins to reach the falls. About a KM into the trekking there is a three story building, you can go to the terrace to get a good view of the falls and click few pics. This is an abandoned building hence make sure it is safe to claim. Just few mts from the building there is a deviation and take the path that leads down the hill on your left. You will have to follow the hairpin bends which will lead to the falls. Once at the falls be careful when you get into water since the rocks are slippery. The water colour is little brownish hence you cannot see the bottom, there are few big stones and pebble hence walk carefully towards the falls. Falls is clean and neat except few trash, make sure you bring back your trash and not to leave it there. There are not animals except few poisonous insects like Tiger Centipede, so do not venture into bushes. Overall it was an amazing experience and place for a day trip. There are not hotels or eateries nearby hence make sure you carry your food.
Dont visit to megam falls through car or bike, this is restricted place, police will come often and put huge fine for the vehicle's parked. Also need to walk for nearly 2hrs to reach the falls, better avoid this and go somewhere else
