Meera Bai (1498-1547) was a Rajput princess of Merta, who worshipped Lord Krishna as her Divine Lover. Meera was unwillingly married to Bhoj Raj, son of Rana Sangram Singh, in 1516. Bhoj Raj died of battle wounds in 1521, & thereafter she was persecuted by her in-laws for her religious devotion. Meera Bai was jailed in this palace by Vikram Singh. She spent her days in her private Krishna temple composing devotional songs. Later Meera left to Merta, but finding that she was not welcomed there, she finally settled in Dwarka. According to popular belief, she miraculously merged with the idol of Krishna in 1547.
