It is an old restaurant which is not maintained much these days. It was famous as it is very nearby to the bus stand in Madurai. Food was not warm and fresh. Only soup and rice was good in a meal.
This was the first branch of Meenakshi bhavan chain of restaurants and During its initial days it was a trend setter. When Poonga Arya bhavan was very popular, Meenakshi bhavan opened and offered many traditional dishes that were not available in many restaurants till then like kuli paniyaram, aapam & thengai paal, Adai, podi idli etc. They were unique and popular. They aren't that unique now and is an ok-ish restaurant now. Still maintain quality but the place looks too old and the staff are not friendly or very welcoming. Parking can be an issue as the road in front is narrow. Even now veg meals for lunch is of value for money.
Had the best veg meals at madurai at 110rs per head. Service quality best in madurai. Healthy food, hygiene good, can be better
