A good hotel for government employees in an affordable price, but not the best. There are big rooms with modern equipments, but the rooms are not clean. There is some lack of service & the behavior of the receptionist is rude. The view from this hotel is excellent. This hotel is situated in a prominent location for best view. There is a grand restaurant inside the Grand Hotel. The quality of foods is quite good, but only veg items are available. No room service is available here.

It is located near to mall road but there is no cab available to go here from railway station. Due to hilly areas, you will feel choked on the way to hotel with bag but distance is not far from railway station. Hotel is very good in this price range. Rooms have ample of space. Restaurant also available on ground floor. Scene from balcony is awesome. Overall good experience in grand hotel

Pros. 1. Location of this hotel is very good. 2. One of the biggest hotel area in shimla and almost every room has its window showing Himalayan beauty. 3. Inside restaurant which is well maintained and price of food is very reasonable. Cons. 1. Only for government employees @300Rs/- double bed room. 2. This building have several block but all blocks not properly maintained. 3. Inside rooms, there were no towel, provided by service staff and no proper cleanings of room. 4. Staff is not as helpful as compare to private hotel staff. 5. Only self service available in Restaurant. Room delivery also not available. Unprofessional behaviour of restaurant staff towards its customer. Not recommended. 6. Beware of monkeys as there are several incidents happens due to monkeys.

This place is for all those who are under govt service and looking for cheap stay in shimla. If u r thinking about cheap place as in bad then u r mistaken, first of all hotel is at the hill top from where view is already beautiful, it has large bedroom with view from window. Bt being low on budget u wont get 4 star facility, the reception denied room service so u have to walk to the hotel restaurant every time even for a tea. Many monkeys roam around this place so have to be cautious every time get scared of opening window. One thing was best that it was nearest to the Ridge as u cant have cabs and private vehicle near ridge to its at the best location. The restaurant food was good bt its vegetarian only.

It's best place to stay in shimla to Govt Employees. It's located near to Mall Road. Distance from railway station is around 1km and take around 20 minutes to climb up by foot as it's located in no vehicle zone.

The Grand Hotel is situated near Kalibadi, The Mall Shimla. It was the first hotel buit in Shimla in the late 1800s. It has a beautiful British-era architecture with huge rooms and an attached lobby. The interiors are wooden and cozy. The restriction of private vehicles on the Mall road, makes it difficult for the guest to reach the hotel with their luggage. The hotel was made a Government quarantine center during 2020 COVID-19 period and I stayed there for 7 days in quarantine as I was travelling back home from Bangalore. The staff was very cooperative and helpfull. The negative thing is the maintenance of the hotel: the rooms were big but not clean, the sheets and the sofas were dirty and the furniture was unkempt.

Staff behavior very nice, atmosphere beautiful, loved big rooms with balcony but the Maintainance is very poor. I saw hairs in blanket, plastic jug with glasses keep on the cement slab, not in tray. Censor light in another room which is first time saw in any hotel, veryyy bad idea. In resturant area , staffs never cleaned the table in every time. Unhealthy unhygienic sitting area. Never think to Sanitisatised the table and chair once. In the pandemic time, as this hotel is under central government, we expect cleanliness, hygenic, sanitized place, so please think and take care of these.

Excellent ambiance great location and room rent only Rs. 400/- for two families ..must visit
