This is a sacred forest which belongs to the tribals and they believe it to be their deity. You need to hire a guide for visiting this forest who will explain you about the significance of the forest. We got very heavy rains while inside the forest and couldn't complete the entire trek. Our guide was explaining things beautifully but even she got irritated by the rains and we decided to return after only half the trek. The surrounding area is also lush green in colour and makes amazing pictures for your album.

It's a great place to visit. The view of this place is great. They charge 350 for a guide who is supposed to guide us through a 40 mnts Trekking. In reality it's just walking through a footpath inside a very less dense forest ( kind of a park ) for 20 minutes. So I think it's a scam to charge 350. And there's more to it, in fact there's entry fees separate and parking fees separate. So for just a park with 3 people for 40 minutes it's about 700 rupees.

Absolute gem of a place. Visually nothing special, but the vibe and the idea that the place is sacred makes it special. I would suggest taking a guide. I would definitely suggest you to sit quietly there and take a few long deep breaths. You'll know the difference.

Visiting this sacred forest was one of its kind experience. It's a forest rich with its ancient history and culture. The stories and facts that the guide shares you leaves you spellbound. The lush greenery spreading across wherever your eyes go is refreshing. The green fields and the calmness of this place ties up a knot with your soul and the nature.

For centuries now, Khasi customs and traditions have been woven into the land and the forests. One of these forests still retains its significance today - the Sacred Groves of Mawphlang. Visitors are not allowed to take anything away from this hallowed forest, not even a pebble or a twig. The dark canopy above and soft humus under your feet will transport you to a primaeval age - a contrast from the green meadows and sprightly pines that dominate the surrounding hills. Apart from rare plants, mushrooms, and trees, the forest is also home to old coronation and sacrificial sites. This was where Khasi kings and ceremonial leaders (Ki Lyngdoh) had their meetings and new chiefs were anointed here. The sites are marked with monoliths, still reminders of a dignified past as the forest creeps around them. The Sacred Groves of Mawphlang are experiencing a revival in popularity because of the conservation message. When you are done soaking in the greenery and exploring the forest, head over to the Khasi Heritage Village where you can admire the different styles of vernacular architecture and design.

A place where the only thing you can bring from is memories There is an ancient story associated with this forest and it is said that nothing goes out of the forest. You cannot bring out even a leaf out of the forest, if you do so, you might face ill-fate. This is something that is said by the legends, but not sure about how true it is. But we chose to respect their culture and we did not bring out anything. This forest is one of the oldest and most famous sacred groves of Meghalaya, harbouring a diversity like medicinal plants, trees and mushrooms. The main highlight is that you will get the opportunity to see Rudraksha tree .

This forest is sacred for the khasis. They do worship their god inside the forest. U should not bring anything out of the forest. You should have a guide to go inside the forest.

The forest was serene. You feel relaxed and connected to nature when inside it. The team managing it can increase the time we are allowed inside it. Also, they can take us little more inside the forest.
