Mathpal'S Museum And Art Gallery - Museum in Bhimtal, Mahargaon - Nainital, India

Absolutely wonderful collection of Cave Art, Folk Art, Fine Art work of Dr Yashodhar Mathpal A must visit if you come to Nainital. (One suggestion, access for cars and beautification outside can be improved. Doesn't take anything away from the Museum tho)

It was a wonderful place. From watercolor sceneries to acrylic paintings, from cave paintings by prehistoric people and creations from his own excursions as an archaeologist to Bhimbhetka, sites in France, etc, it hosts everything interesting for a budding artist as well as an aspiring historian. His Museum is the best part. It houses replicas of tools used in stone age, real fossils of sea animals, clothes used by people of different eras, their utensils and manuscripts. And the list goes on... Of course with a great guide, it becomes a memorable experience. You can visit the art galleries for free and the museum at reasonable rates.

Beautiful museum containing the work and collection of legendary artist, Dr Yashodhar Mathpal. We saw collections of ancient tools and equipments as well as traditional Kumaoni household objects from the area. The musuem also has amazing watercolor paintings by Dr Mathpal on lush green Himalayan landscapes and Kumaoni life. Finally, we finished our visit at the rock art gallery, containing works for which Dr Mathpal was awarded Padma Shri. One can also buy prints and postcards of popular works at a small shop. Worth a visit every time we cross Bhimtal-Bhawali!

Amazing museum with a jaw dropping collection of some very ancient items. Indeed it's a must visit for people who love to gain knowledge about Kumaoni culture and the beautiful paintings done by Mathpal sir is more than enough to spend your time here adding more flavour to the place is the beautiful scenery and the bird watch that is available here. A must visit for lovers of art and culture and for those who love nature.

An amazing place for art lovers. Definitely visit if you have an interest in knowing the art and culture Kumaon. This place has one of the best collection of local paintings.

This museum is the best in Uttarakhand with almost everything related to art, culture, archeological sites and rare species of plants. If you are in Nainital then do visit here in Bhimtal, Nainital. You can spend atleast 2 hours easily with subtle information. Cheers!

Museum at Bhimtal District Nainital Uttrakhand India. Great collection of artefacts, rare articles and paitings by Padmshree Yashodhar Mathpal . This is his effort to establish such a museum in a remote place like Bhimtal. A worth visiting place for someone visiting Kumaon Region of Uttrakhand State of India like Nainital, Bhimtal, Ranikhet, Almora, Binsar, Jageshwar or for that matter any place in the Hills of Kumaon as this Museum falls on the way of all these places.
