Masjid Khairul Manazil - Featured Reviews (236)
Built in about 1561-2 CE, this relatively little-known mosque is one of the rare medieval buildings in Delhi that was built under the aegis of a woman: one of Akbar's wet nurses, Maham Anga, had it constructed. The name of the mosque 'Khair-ul-Manazil', means 'best of houses'. In the 16th century and till later, the mosque premises also housed a madarsa, of which you can still see ruined rows of double-storeyed cells surrounding the courtyard on two sides. The large sehan or courtyard contains a shallow tank for wazu (ritual ablutions) and a now-closed well beside it. The mosque is still functional, so if you decide to go into the mosque (beyond the sehan), please take off footwear. There is a sign here to this effect. The interior of the mosque is worth seeing: even though parts of the beautifully worked plaster and intricate coloured tile work has now disappeared, there's enough still left to make this very striking.
"Masjid Khair-ul-Manazil" This mosque, built in 1561, is near Shershah Suri Gate on Mathura Road in Delhi, Built under the orders of Akbar, this mosque is lying deserted today under the control of ASI and is becoming dilapidated day by day. In the name of maintenance, ASI has taken possession of hundreds of such mosques in Delhi alone, in the rest of India a large number of mosques have been taken over. If this mosque had been handed over to the Waqf Board and populated with worshippers, then this dilapidated mosque would also have been in a better condition like the Jama Masjid. Muslims can take care of their places of worship better than the government agency ASI, Now if we talk about Gurgaon, many mosques in Gurgaon have been taken over by the government and handed over to ASI. Today, thousands of Muslims working in Gurgaon are forced to go to parks for prayers because Muslims are not demanding their rightful places of worship. Ownership rights have been snatched away and he has been forced into exile, The Muslim is not asking for charity but is asking for the property built by his father and grandfather. The government should show honesty by handing over their places of worship to the Muslims and by handing over the parks to fanatics, whether they should spread dung or make dens of debauchery for boys and girls, We don't care,
Masjid Khairul Manazil is one of the oldest mosques of delhi It is situated opposite of Purana Qila and Zoo in Mathura Road. Gate of this mosque is made from red stone and the architecture of this mosque is similar to many Mughal era masjids There is wudukhana in the courtyard of this mosque people still offer namaj here There are no entry charges here
It's an Old ASI protected Mosque in front of Purana Qila, not as grand as Jama Masjid but nice small with historical significance. Not protected in a way to be visited by tourists, most people visit there by chance and not by will. Namaz is offered here so its clean and not abandoned.
Khairul Manzil or Khair-ul-Manazil meaning 'the most auspicious house' is a historic mosque built in 1561 in New Delhi, India. The mosque is situated on the Mathura road to the south east of the Shershah Gate, opposite the Purana Qila. The entrance gate of the mosque was built with red sandstone following the Mughal architecture, but the interior structure of the building was built in the Delhi Sultanate pattern. This mosque was built by Maham Anga who was the foster mother of Emperor Akbar. It is said that in 1564, Akbar was attacked by an assassin near the mosque while he was returning from the Nizamuddin Dargah. Later it was used as a madrasa. Presently this building is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India.
Khair Ul Manzil means "the best of houses". Built around 1561 CE by Maham Anga, wet nurse of Mughal Emperor Akbar, this building originally included a Madrasa (Islamic School) along its courtyard which has mostly collapsed. The Mosque structure seems to be intact but in need of conservation. Tiny bits of the original Central Asian themed blue tile & mosaic work remains along the main arch of the mosque. There is no parking but you can park opposite the road at the National Zoological Park. Everything is flat so persons of reduced mobility can easily walk in. Being a place of worship, do dress modestly, no shorts for men or short dresses for women & avoid going on a Friday as most worshippers would be there on that day.
Khair ul Manazil means the best place to stay. It is a Mosque built by Akbar's wet nurse or foster mother. Masjid's building is in crumbling stage. Building is still erected due to its heavy wide walls. There is no any renovation works from ASI. Alhamdulillah, there is regular five times Prayer in Masjid being held every day.
