The statue of Marquis Dupleix is situated in the children's park on the beach road. Dupleix was one of the most popular French governors to Pondicherry. He tried to prevent British supremacy by forming alliances with local princes. With the defeat of French in the Second Carnatic War, Dupleix resigned his governorship and returned to France. The garden on the northern end of Goubert Avenue near Promenade beach is usually populated by hundreds of joggers and morning walkers.
The statue of Marcus Dupleix is one of the most iconic landmarks of Pondicherry, a beautiful coastal city in South India. The statue is located at the end of Goubert Avenue, also known as Beach Road, facing the Bay of Bengal. Marcus Dupleix was a French governor who played a significant role in the development of Pondicherry during the colonial era. He served as the governor of Pondicherry from 1742 to 1754 and is credited with establishing the French East India Company in India. The statue of Dupleix is a magnificent bronze sculpture that stands tall at around 3.5 meters high. The statue depicts the governor in a commanding pose, with one hand resting on his hip and the other hand holding a sword. He is dressed in traditional French attire, complete with a long coat and a tricorn hat.
Joseph Marquis Dupleix was the governor general of French India from 14th January 1742 to 15th October 1754. Dupleix left Puducherry in 1754 but french recognition of his contribution came only in 1870, with the commissioning of two statues . One is in Puducherry while the other one in France. The former statue is now situated in Goubert Avenue at the end of Rock Beach. It was first installed on 16 July 1870. In 1979 the statue was moved from its previous location in the middle of the current Bharathy park to the current location at the beach. In 2014, the statue was further restored by the PWD department of Pondicherry . Dupleix Street was the former name of Jawaharlal Nehru Street in Pondicherry.

The place was nice, but required a regular maintenance of this statue, other wise connection to history is will be lost soon...
Marquis Dupleix stands tall but the statue is not clean as birds waste is all over the face, I hope they might clean few days once. Park looked clean but again the beach have got lots of rubbish laying over everywhere. Swimming is prohibited in this area maybe due to covid or high waves. But people still enjoy in the sea shore in water. Public toilet is available next to this park.
Statue of French Governor General is located on Promenade, near Rock Beach Pondicherry. The view is quite nice, but as with any non-celebrated monument, maintenance is poor, and statue is adorned with pegion poop all over. The inscription about history of the Governor is faded, and barely readable. The only good thing is the view around it.
