Marina Beach is a natural urban beach in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, along the Bay of Bengal The beach runs from near Fort St. George in the north to Foreshore Estate in the south, a distance of 6.0 km (3.7 mi),making it the longest natural urban beach in the country. The Marina is primarily sandy, unlike the short, rocky formations that make up the Juhu Beach in Mumbai. The average width of the beach is 300 m (980 ft) and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m (1,434 ft). Bathing and swimming at the Marina Beach are legally prohibited because of the dangers, as the undercurrent is very turbulent. It is one of the most crowded beaches in the country and attracts about 30,000 visitors a day during weekdays and 50,000 visitors a day during the weekends and on holidays. Marina beach in Chennai along the Bay of Bengal is India's longest and world's second longest beach. This predominantly sandy of nearly 12 kilometers extends from Beasant Nagar in the south to Fort St. George in the north. Chennai Marina beach was renovated by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in 1880s. The famous colleges and universities of tamilnadu is also located at marina like Queen Mary's college and University of Madras and Presidency College is also located in that area. The Nature gives its beauty always, but we (people) spoils that to through plastic bags and empty water bottles on the beach. While walking from the road side to beach I found lots of garbages here and there. GCC gives there full efforts to maintain the beach well... So people have to change to maintain our place clean and Green.
Since it is very famous.That much crowded is this place. It's very hard to even get a good space to sit and enjoy the beach. It's too populated.
Nice long beach , but lack of cleanliness. , Eww the sand of the beach is full of paper, horsedung , plastic pieces and other bio and non bio wastes , but the view and wind is nice, i suggest visiting after 5 pm to 7 pm , try to avoid street food , and all future visiters please dont throw any thing on the sand or beach , actullay tye beach is 90 percentage dead ... ,

Fascinating place with a long beach. If you start walking from the Lighthouse, you can go all the way to Anna Square. The roads of the Kamarajar Promenade is well maintained with police controlling the stream of traffic. The evenings on Marina are pleasant and the place is abuzz.
