Most people miss this very special spot on the Basel ghat road. The ridge of the Western ghats that separates the two sides is marked on the lake side. It's a very small silent lake in the middle of the small village of mankanahalli. As most travellers miss it, you better have all eyes open...
Karnataka has a series of ridge points in north-south direction over the western ghats. One such ridge is in Mankanahalli on Bisile ghat section. Any rain drop which falls to the left of this slab, goes to the Arabian sea. Anything on the right side, flows to the Bay of Bengal.Once in a life time we all should visit like this place.
Rainfall on the ridge flow to various streams in the Ghat which than link up with rivers before ending their journey either in the Arabian Sea in the west or Bay of Bengal Bengal in the east. stone slab on a platform where it is engraved 'Arabian Sea' and 'Bay of Bengal' indicating the direction of flow of water between the two seas. British officers had decided that it was the ridge point
