Nestling among, sylvan surrounding in Parbati valley, Manikaran is famous for its hot springs. Manikaran at an altitude of 1,829 mt. and 40 kms from Kullu has the finest hot water springs. Probably the most important and most useful is the one on the river bank at the entrance to the village which is always in great activity and is said to rise and fall with the increase and decline of river water. Rocks surrounding the spring are uncomfortably hot, while the temperature of the water is above boiling point. Rice can be cooked if placed in a muslin bag or tied up in cloth and thrown into the hot water pool. The water of the springs is said to be radioactive. It is supposed to be beneficial to sufferers from rheumatism and similar ailments. Due to Raghunathjee and Gurudawara, Manikaran is a favorite resort of pilgrims for Hindus and Sikhs. According to an ancient legend, Manikaran is also connected with Lord Shiva and his divine consort Parvati.

It is always a delight to visit this place. It's right by the river with a soothing atmosphere. The river has hot springs and in this hot water langar food rice is cooked. There are two separate ponds built for men and women to take dip in the holy water.

The outer view of the Manikaran temple and Manikaran Sahib gurudwara located at Manikaran featuring the hot water well and the Parvati river flowing by it. This is the most famous place in the town. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. The Hindus believe that Manu recreated human life in Manikaran after the flood, making it a sacred area.

A unique spiritual place blessed with Shiv Mandir and Gurudwara. The natural Hot water emitting from this source is indeed extremely hot. Gurudwara bhandar is cooked in this natural hot water. It was an amazing sight to witness this happening. As the food is cooked by the heat from the hot water the Langar offered by Gurudwara consists of Lentils, Vegetables and Rice ( all without oil). And yet it is so tasty. Inside the Gurudwara are two Kunds ( water storage). One is the natural wahot spring water from where one can see steam emiting from the surface. One simply cannot take bath here. There is another kund which has the same water from the original source and mixed with cold water for people to take a dip in it. Even this water is pretty hot. There are no tickets or any monetary involved to see and dip in this Kund. Asa suggestion avoid going during weekends. I went on a weekday which was also crowded. Moreover since there is only one road leading from Bhuntar and passing through Kasol Chojh and Manikaran the road is definitely jam packed especially during season and weekends.

Hot water seen flowing into main river. The lanes going to temple/ gurudwara is very narrow, ladies toilets condition bad, no sulabh souchalay near by, risk of stampede, belief in God, so many persons visiting the gurudwara. There must be scientific reason for hot water coming into the kund. Wonder to see.
